memorial day weekend bad for bday party?
DD first bday is May 20, so wanted to have the party Sat afterwards so it will be warmer and we can have it outdoors. Would u be able to make it or is it just a really bad weekend for most people to make a party?

A friend of ours has the same dilemma but we have made it each year and so has every one else - she has it on the sunday usually. I think if it suits you then go for it and try not to be disappointed if some people cannot make it.

It depends on who you are inviting. I would think most family members would make an effort to come but friends may have other plans.

Re: memorial day weekend bad for bday party?
I honestly think it depends on your invte list - Do most people have small children also? If so, then I don't think it's that big of a deal - but if not.........If not, I wouldn't want to spend my Memorial Day weekend w/ a 1st Bday party obligation right smack in the middle - KWIM?
My cousin used to do this EVERY Labor Day weekend for her son ........and get p*ssed off when many people declined.

Re: memorial day weekend bad for bday party?
DS's birthday is 5/27 (he was born the day before Memorial Day in 2007) and for his first birthday we did the party on 5/31 - after Memorial day.
We did that for 2 reasons: 1. Our family is very superstitious (me included) and we can only celebrate after the actual birthday.
2. We wanted to avoid Memorial Day weekend...but I should tell you that had we done it that weekend we would have had better weather. We had torential downpour the morning of DS's party the following weekend...fortunately it cleared for his party but it was crazy.

I also think it depends on your guest list. We generally don't go away that weekend, but a close family member of ours usually goes camping that weekend. I think they would either be upset to miss it or annoyed that they had to stay home for it.

Just adding my 2 cents but i think saturday or monday is better, this way if people still want to make plans, they can and still attend the party. I have a co-worker who gets annoyed b/c he has a friend party obilgation in the middle of memorial day weekend and always says he wishes it was the saturday or monday.

Re: memorial day weekend bad for bday party?
My DD's birthday is Memorial day weekend every year and the first year when we had her party on Memorial day weekend a lot of friends couldn't make it so we don't anymore.

I agree with Melissa. I think it is fine to have the party that weekend, but it would be easier for most people NOT to have it smack dab in the middle of the weekend!
