Men are idiots - obgyn vent

ok - normally I really really like my obgyn. He's very down to earth, his office isnt very busy, he is friendly, etc.

HOWEVER.

Doctor comes in and looks at my chart at my appt today and says "well - you're weight gain is pretty much ok - you're 17 weeks and have gained 8 pounds - but you really need to watch it - you've gained 5 pounds in the last month - remember, you want to stay in the high 20s - not the 40s!!!"

I'm not a cryer at all - I'm more of an eye roller. But I'm totallly calm and say "well, you said to gain a pound a week in the 2nd trimester - I gained an extra pound - but I'm still where you wanted me to be, right?"

then doctor says 'well, just watch it - then DH adds (WHY ON EARTH DID HE THINK HE SHOULD ADD ANYTHING????) "she ate a lot at thanksgiving - that's probably the extra pound."

ok. I'm already sensitive about my changing body - just gave blood for the AFP test and am nervous about it - and these two guys who will never be pregnant are discussing my weight and making me feel badly?

I may be overreacting - but I needed to vent. I know my doctor didnt mean to make me feel ridiculous - but I felt like I was being lectured to like I am a child.

Seriously...the sad thing is I am sure your DH was trying to help you. Sometimes I wish they all would listen to it in their heads before saying it.

Actually, my female OBGYN also was concered about exessive weight gain during my first pregnancy, whcih didn't stop me from putiing on 44 lbs Considering, I started off at 112, it was A LOT of stress for my body. My Dr was horrified!

He is just looking out for you, the more you gain, the harder it is on your frame that is already carrying the baby.

Just try to make good choices but don;t deprive yourself! If you want that ice-cream, well than that's what's you need!

At the end, you gain what you gain.

OMG that would annoy me so much. I love how your DH chimed in with the Thanksgiving comment!!! If anyone says anything to me about my weight during this pregnancy I'm going to rip them a new one.

Listen with my first pregnancy I gained 43 pounds and my doctor said you should watch it cuz its easier to loose 25 pounds then 50 pounds. Thats w hy they like you to not gain that much and it can bcome a health problem

Like I said I gaine 43 pounds and I didn't care I Was hungry I ate it took me a while to loose it all but I was healthy and so was my daighter and I am looking forward to eating again lol lol lol.

This is the only time you can eat anything and everything under the sun and not care about the weight cuz your gonna gain i t anyway thats my outlook on it

MEN I had one 5 wk period when I gained 9 pounds. I was stressing and my doc was calm and said not to worry, my overall weight gain was just fine. She said a majority of women gain over 30 pounds and that it not something to worry about, as long as you are healthy.

SO don't stress- what a moron

So sorry they treated you like that.
On the other hand, I feel like I have gained SO much weight, I SHOULD have been yelled at by the Doc - but so far he hasn't said anything.
Guess we can't win!

Men ARE idiots. I have gained almost 40 pounds and my OB thinks its fine - he says he's not worried about it. So don't feel bad - I know I have gained a lot of weight but my baby is also big for its gestational age so it makes me feel like I am doing a good job!

My doctor was like I don't care what you gain, you're the one who has to lose it.

Men just don't think.
