Re: Menstrual Migraines
I have been getting them for the last 5 yrs or so. They usually start a few days before my period comes. Usually I will have a slight headache on my leftside in the morning, and if I don't take 3 advil when I first feel it coming I am screwed!! By the afternoon if I don't take anything it gets so bad, but its only on my leftside. It hurts when I move or walk. Sometimes they get so bad I get really nausous and throw up. But they only last about two days, but the second day is better, its just lingering. Lately I have been getting them when I am about to ovulate too

Re: Menstrual Migraines
I had a KILLER one of these yesterday. I took three advil, it did not help. I tried to take a cool shower, massage my temples, lay down, sit up, eat something, close my eyes, etc. I woke up with it and it lasted until almost 6pm. Believe it or not I think it was a few pieces of dark chocolate that finally helped.

Re: Menstrual Migraines
I ended up in the hospital today because of it. I have had a massive headache since 2 days before my period combined with light and smell sensitivity, nausceousness and vomitting. I have been on birth control for many years but had to come off in April. These migraines started then.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Menstrual Migraines
I always get it 2-3 days before my period... like clockwork. Usually it goes away when my period starts.
Some months it's dull and manageable. Other months it's really bad. I take 3 Advil, which takes the edge off, but doesn't get rid of it. Sometimes 2 Excedrin Migraine helps.
It stinks, men don't know how lucky they are

Re: Menstrual Migraines
I started getting them in the fall of 2007. I would get them every 28 days like clockwork on day 2 of my period. They would usually start around 2 pm at work. My head would be pounding and I would be very sensitive to light and I would be nauseous and sometimes I would vomit. I got in the habit of going home, closing all the blinds, taking some sort of pain medication, and passing out for like 1-2 hours. It would then feel better, but it felt like I had a slight hangover. I talked about this with my PCP (Fall 2008) and his response "oh it is hormonal." He offered me nothing - pretty much - just deal with it.
I then spoke to my Obgyn and she suggested it might be the pill, which surprised me because I had been on the pill since June 2002 with no problems. Needless to say, I have stopped taking the pill and my headaches (knock on wood) have diminished considerably. I will still get a flare up here and there, but they are bearable. I usually go for a run and it helps to clear it up.

I think the pill made my migraines worse, too. Since I've been off the pill, they are less common and more predictable. Now I usually get one on the first day of my period. As long as I catch it early, it is manageable with motrin, quiet, caffeine, a massage...
Ugh, migraines just stink!!!
