mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
I have an interview tomorrow. Can I ask what their maternity leave policy is or would that be in poor taste? Like, I really want this job, but as soon as I'm PG, I'll be out for a while....
With my current job, we have to use our accruing sick leave for maternity leave. I've been here so long, I can be out for 6 months w/pay.

Unfortunately, you shouldn't ask during interviewing. They could use that against you when deciding.
ETA: GOOD LUCK!

Re: mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
noooo no way would I mention it in an interview. they are not supposed to discriminate about that stuff but they very well may. best to not say anything - they will explain the benefits to you and should include it on their own but if they dont, i wouldnt ask.
good luck!

You should definitely ask about benefits but in a more general way.

Re: mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
As an HR Manager, I wouldn't ask at the interview.
If they extend the position to you, they SHOULD send you a book with all their benefits and policies like vacation and sick so you can see.
Good luck!!

Re: mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
Definately don't ask. Like the other girls mentioned that will raise a red flag and might cause you to be discriminated against. Also a company is not required to offer you FMLA unless you have 1 year of service, so at worst case scenario that could be their policy. Just something to consider.

I definately agree with everything above. They would never admit that is why you didnt get the job, but it would of course factor in their decision.
It sounds like you have it pretty good where you are, would they hold your job for 6 months. FMLA only requires they hold it for 12 weeks.

Re: mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
Hey Donna,
I definitely agree with everyone else and I wouldn't ask. I wouldn't even ask about benefits in a first interview, I would wait for the second. When is your interview?

Re: mentioning maternity leave at a job interview?
Hey girls,
thanks for the advice.
The director was sick, so the interview was postponed til july 14.
Who knows, but maybe I'll find out if I'm PG by then. If so, then I'll stay w/my old job and use my sick leave for maternity leave!!!
Hope to see you at the GTG tomorrow!!!
