Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
First off MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I was just wondering for the people who celebrate Christmas- what do you do? I understand the opening of presents- but what do you do after that?
Thanks.

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
We have drinks & appetizers, watch a christmas movie usually, then dinner, some talking & coffee then dessert followed by more talking! Just hanging around for us!
As kids, we used to go to church with my grandparents, but we are all guilty of no longer going, so some might do that!
Edited for spelling due to MANY glasses of WINE!!

Open gifts, Eat, sit around and talk. Last night we went to my parents. After dinner we played games and ended up there until after 11PM. A lot of people also go to church. (Dh and I are the BAD ones, and did not go) Just get together with family.

Family comes over and we eat and usually watch Christmas Vacation. And basically just spend time together :)
Thanks for the Christmas wishes!

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
We put out cookies & carrots the night before for Santa & his reindeer. In the morning everyone opens their presents. zThe kids check around the house & see that Santa ate their cookies and the reindeers nibbled on the carrots. This year Santa wrote them a note thanking them for the cookies & carrots along with a special present for them. At about 8sih, we have a parade of people come for breakfast. The rest of our day is spent with family (my family isn't religious - otherwise we should be going to church).
The rest of the day is spent playing, eating, napping. Then we went to my mom's for dinner, more presents, then the guys broke out the guitar & played some music as we cleaned up.

Eat, exchange gifts, and just hang out. Some of the family attends Mass. It's the only holiday where the whole family is there.

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
Christmas eve we go to the early mass, around 4:30. It's a candlelight mass and I love it. Then we go back to my ILs and have appitizers and dinner. It's more about being with family then dinner or the presents. After dinner, we exchange presents.
Christmas morning, we wake to see if Santa came and if he did, we open our stockings. Being that I'm German, the stockings are a big deal to me. Then we open the presents around the tree. Christmas dinner is a my sisters. We give the children their gifts and spend the rest of the nigth just hanging out with apps and dinner.

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
Since we celebrate both, I can tell you that the only differences between the two holidays for us are:
there's a tree in one house and not the other there's holiday music in one house vs. regular music in the other there's more italian food in one house than the other
other than that, we eat, drink, talk, take pictures, open gifts, etc. We're not religious in either family, so no church or temple attendance on either side.

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
Now that I have kids, we spend most of Christmas assembling toys, finding batteries for toys, putting batteries in toys, reading directions for how to set up toys, unpackaging toys, find space on the floor to set up toys, etc.... (I think you get the idea.... )

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
Thanks!! I appreciate all the answers.
DH and I were talking about this. In many Jewish homes, it is a tradition to go to the movies on Christmas. We were talking about how crowded the movie would be.
I told him it was going to be just a bunch of people who don't celebrate Christmas. DH thought that ppl who do celebrate X-mas go to the movies too after celebrating with their families.
Then we realized, we have no clue what people do on X-mas other than what we see on TV. So I thought I would ask!

Re: Merry Christmas! and a silly question for those who celebrate...
We went to my sister's in the afternoon. The kids played with their gifts in the morning (they got us up at 6am!). Before kids we would open our gifts and then go to my parents or eat at home and have some family over.
