Methods to increase Brain Function?
I seriously feel like my brain has lost it's power. I know that sounds silly but I can't explain it. It's almost like it's a muscle that has atrophed. I have a hard time problem solving and concentrating at work. I'm a little scared. I bought some vitamins at GNC and hoping they'll help but any other recommendations or experience?

Have you gone for an MRI? I would see your doctor and get checked out.

Re: Methods to increase Brain Function?
I feel the exact same way as you! I have brain fog, don't think as quickly, lose concentration and focus, cannot articulate thoughts as clearly, poor memory, etc. I saw a doctor who referred me for an MRI, and nada.
I started noticing the change in my early twenties, and I'm pretty sure it was my high processed food and refined sugar diet that did it.
There is a new York best seller book out now called "grain brain" by dr. David perlmutter that I have been wanting to read. From what I understand, dr. Perlmutter believes that grains are responsible for many of the neurological disorders and "brain fog" type complaints that are seen today.
He advocates eating grassfed meats, salmon, nuts, coconut oils, etc. for better brain health.

I can definitely say that I don't eat the best. I will definitely pick up the book and try a healthier diet. I'm scared to get an MRI. What were they looking for when you had yours?

Re: Methods to increase Brain Function?
I'm not really sure since it's been about six years. I'm guessing any abnormalities or white matter?
But I will say that the doctor offered me no advice on what it could be or what I could do to improve my symptoms. At some point I may see an acupuncturist or holistic doctor to see if there are any supplements I should take.

Re: Methods to increase Brain Function?
How do you sleep and how much sleep are you getting? I can see a DIRECT correlation between the amount of sleep I get (and the quality) and my brain function. Could that be an issue for you?

Re: Methods to increase Brain Function?
OK this is also headed into a different direction, but I actually know of a couple people who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD later in life.
It came into play more with certain jobs a lot more than others.
I definitely agree with following up with a specialist though. There could be tons of different reasons you are feeling this way.
I also know sometimes people "shut down" so to speak if they are really stressed, depressed and/or anxious.

Re: Methods to increase Brain Function?
Here's yet another direction: i saw my gyn a couple of months ago, complained about bloating that comes and goes. She said welcome to your late 30s. It includes hormonal shifts AND impaired concentration.
I said great. Thanks.
