Methotrexate
I got pregnant 7 weeks ago after my third IUI. Over the last few weeks, my RE has had me come in for several beta level test. Unfortunately, my numbers are very low and are not doubling, so this is not a viable pregnancy.
They have checked my tubes for an ectopic pregnancy and did not see anything. They aslo did not see anything in the uterus....so they can't do a D&C.
They want me to come in tomorrow for a shot of methotrexate, which is suppose to help your body miscarry.
Has anyone every had to take this to help induce a miscarriage?
Any info would be great.

Re: Methotrexate
I never heard of it. I had a D&C. If I knew then what I know now, I would have miscarried naturally.
I am very sorry you are in this place right now. I would speak to the OB about letting you mis naturally, it is probably the best thing for your body. Especially at 7 weeks.

Re: Methotrexate
Yes, I have had a shot of methotrexate to disolve my ectopic (but not tubal) pregnancy.

Re: Methotrexate
Thank you for the feedback everyone.
Lisa- Did you have any side effects from the shot? How long did you have to wait before trying again? That is what I have....an ectopic pregnancy that is not tubular. Was there a reason why your doctor just didn't wait for your body to miscarry on it's own? Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to gather info to make sure this is the right thing for me.

Re: Methotrexate
Well, a day or two after the shot I started bleeding, like a heavy AF, headache, nausea...nothing too awful...
I was doing IVF, I cannot get pg naturally, so I knew I wasn't cycling again for a few months. I do remember someone saying 3 months.
I went for a special high powered scan, and the pregnancy was found oustide my ute, next to my bladder. My beta was still rising, so it was still growing, plus it was in a dangerous place. The drs didn't want to have to put me through surgery, so they decided to give me a metho shot.
So sorry that you are going through this

Re: Methotrexate
Thank you for the info Lisa.
It sounds just like what is happening with me. I would much rather have the shot, then for them to wait it out and have to do surgery later on.
I hope that things are better for you now and that a BFP is on it's way.

I also had this and I was VERY hesitant to get it-the shot is bright yellow and that freaked me out too. I really did not have any problem with it and in the end was glad I did it because if you have an eptopic there is no way the embryo would survive and it is basically foreign matter in your system preventing your cycle returning to normal.

Re: Methotrexate
Thank you for the everyone.
I had the shot this morning. It wasn't to bad, just a little bit of a sting. I took the day off from work to relax.
I go back Sunday and Wednesday for bloodwork to see if the meds are working. I am praying that they do.....I want this to be behind me.
