I almost fell out of bed this morning when DH told me about this. Absolutely disgusting the way it was done.
Willie is a stand up guy who brought class to that team. To treat him the way they did really makes me sick to my stomach. They could have gone about this in such a better way.
Whether you felt Willie had to go or not, I don't think too many people liked the way it was handled.
And from the articles I am reading there are apparently a lot of issues in the mets clubhouse. Starting with Omar's assistant Blaizard (or something like that). They said he is always in the clubhouse and that a lot of the Latin players felt they could go to him if they disagreed with Willie on something. No way should the GM or especailly his asst have any rule over the players. They need to do the deals and stay out of it.
I think it's going to be a long time before we see anything from this team. Their farm system is depleted and they have a bunch of agining veterans. I really think Omar should go after this year.

Total bullsh!t move by the management. Willie has been on borrowed time since September everybody knew that.
Management figured lets see how Willie handles the team in the first 2-3 months of '08 before they give him the axe.
And I don't think Wright has be half azzing it at all, if anything he's the only one with any heart on this team.
They are old and broken down. This team needs to get younger. Firing the manager is not the answer.
i have said all along that firing him is not the answer.. and i feel that Omar will be next. this is all just so ridiculous

Oh come on Kevin...any baseball fan knows it wasn't a real offer to Torre. It was a firing that Hank tried to not make look like a firing. It was NOT a serious offer.

Before anyone accuses me of being a "typical Yankees fan", I think the way the Yankees fired Torre last year was just as bad and just as classless.
Wagner is not the problem here.. and has been GREAT for us before those 3 blown saves.. how is that Willie's fault?
It's not Willie's fault...I was being sarcastic.

Nothing that hasn't been said here really but I had to put in my 2cents
Willie had to go, IMO. While I truly don't believe he really should be fully blamed for them doing poorly, I also don't think he should have received much credit when they did well. I think he has kind of been a non-entity in that clubhouse from the get-go and maybe it's time they need more of a presence. And as much as we can sit here and call out basically every single player on that team, you can't change an entire team mid-season but you can switch out a single manager or a small part of the staff.
I am excited for Warthen though - Peterson IMO should have been gone 2 years ago.
ETA: I don't think there's anyone out there they would argue that they didn't royally f' up the PR portion of this. Not sure who exactly thought it was a good idea to let the poor guy fly to CA and go through a post-game conference before they gave him the axe

I thought Jerry Manuel was hysterical at the press conference. Especially when he said that at the end of the year he's leaving his uniform on so Omar can't fire him!
