if you are staying at a resort it is no problem - you can drink the water out of hte tap

if you go to a little resturant outside of the touristy section - ask for no ice in your drink

All the resorts use filtered water so you should be fine.

If you happen to be staying at an all inclusive, they usually give you lots of bottled water anyway. We used it for everything, including brushing our teeth. But we had no problems with the ice or anything because the resorts all use filtered water.

I personally would not drink the water. We were at a resort and my husband got very sick for 2 days.

THe only place we had to worry about drinking the water was when brushing our teeth- it specifically said it on the mirror in the bathroom NOT POTABLE.

We brushed our teeth with bottled water and were fine!

Everywhere else was fine- the drinks, the ice, the salad, etc.

we were in Puerto Vallarta- stayed at a RIU

When I went to Cancun in 1997 I drank the water right out of the hotel sink and I was fine. Maybe I was lucky though?

I wouldn't drink out of the tap. Most ice in restaurants is filtered though, you can ask if you want to feel better about it though.

I also use bottled water to brush my teeth.

DH has built up a small immunity to the bacteria in the water. He and his friend picked up the wrong gallon jug and DH was able to power through it, his friend (first time in Mexico) was out for about 12 hours.

Be careful about drinking the shower water too. I find myself forgetting and spitting out.

Don't worry too much though, I have been to Mexico 20+ times and have NEVER had a problem.

Me too. I experienced an awful spring break in Cancun during college. We all got sick. Miserable.
