MF Issues girls and/or North Shore girls -- did you freeze a 'backup' semen sample during IVF treatment?
I know that I have asked this before, without limiting it to North Shore, and I think that most everyone said they did not. I also have several friends from OOS that have gone through IVF, all with MF issues too, and they have not done this either.
We had decided against giving a backup sample to be frozen and thawed prior to IVF because of the cost factor. I think it's $850 at North Shore. I don't want to be short sighted here, or tempt fate!, but DH has never had a problem giving a sample. The count has been between 3-15million, and since we're doing ICSI I don't think the count even matters that much.
But the doctors are making me kind of crazy about it because of course they want to cover all possible problems - what if he can't make it in to provide a sample that morning (well, then how would I make it in for the ER?), what if there is no live sperm (never been a problem for us in the 2 years that my DH has been having analyses done, even when he was in the midst of cancer treatment he still had 1 million), etc. etc.
Can anyone who goes to North Shore weigh in on this?? Have you done the backup sample for $850 extra??
TIA - I'm going crazy here!!

I didnt go to North Shore but we did freeze back up semen at another clinic which cost $210. They didnt require backup but suggested it since my DH has trouble producing on day of retrieval. mad:
Hope this helps.:

Yep I did for the fact that if for some reason there was a problem on the day of my ER and if there is a human factor at the lab that god forbid happened that day. At least there is a backup plan.
I think also if you signed that paperwork to allow his semen for use in the event there was a reason he couldnt provide. It is a bit expensive.

I am pretty sure we froze a sample before the IVF just incase something went wrong that day.... I dont remeber paying any extra though but that was back in Dec 2008 at NSUH.

Yes, we froze an extra sample just in case. DH had lower numbers so they just wanted to be sure there would be enough. They didn't have to use it though, but I can't remember if we paid for it?? This was at RSNY.
