Mickey/minnie cake pans
Does anybody have a minnie mouse or mickey mouse cake pan they would be willing to lend me or sell? I am doing a mickey/minnie them for my twins 1st birthday and the cake pans go for so much $$ on e-bay, especially the minnie ones!!! Thank you

Why don't you just cut it out free form into the shape of Mickey or Minnie's head? Use a circle pan for the face, then make a sheet cake and cut out ears and a bow for Minnie's head. That would be easy and inexpensive!

I bet you can get his face right if you draw it out first and then trace it in a light icing color. I would just use a star tip and pipe it all that way.
Or you can cut it out in fondant...I make marshmallow fondant and it's really easy! Good luck!

Re: Mickey/minnie cake pans
Just get a mickey pan, and make the cake and decorate like it's mickey...but with eyelashes. Then get some pink fondant, roll it out and cut a bow shape with a pizza cuter and place it up by the ears. Super easy! No need to spend money on a Minnie pan!

Making fondant is messy but easy. You can buy it premade - Wilton has fondant and I think Duff from Ace of Cakes now has a line in Michael's but it's really not hard. Here's the recipe I use. Recipe

You can buy it already colored at AC Moore or Michaels. Super easy to work with (I've made my own and I prefer using pre-made). Kind of like sugar cookie dough. Sprinkle some confectioner's sugar on your counter and roll it out so it's thin enough to work with. Then you can use a pizza cutter to cut the shape you want. When I make a bow, I cut a long rectangular strip, and then fold each end in so it meets in the middle. I use a little dot of water to keep it in place. Then I put a little bit of tissue inside of each side of the loop so when it dries, it keeps it's shape. Then I take a small rectangle of fondant and wrap it around the middle to cover where the fondant was folded over. Any wrinkles that happen make it look more realistic!
It's really not hard....and it looks adorable!
