Middle school teachers- need some help
I am going back to work next week after being out on maternity leave for 14 weeks. 
I'm going to do a unit on social issues and I want to find a few stories (or parts of novels) about social problems- drugs, child abuse, homelessness, etc. I'm drawing a blank at the moment- can anyone suggest some titles?

if you want to do something about mental illness, you could use "Flowers for Algernon"
The novel Speak could also be good.
