Midwife or Regular Doc?
I normally go to a midwife at my gyno office.... now that Dh and I are going to TTC in about 6 months or so, should I switch to the regular doctor or stay with the midwife?
How many of you have a midwife as your gyno?
I didnt really care before, but now that we are thinking of having a baby- I dunno if I should change docs (mind you I have only been to this midwife 2 times because we moved but will still want to stay at this office)

Re: Midwife or Regular Doc?
I am in the same boat as you kinda. We are moving the end of the month, and I have to find a new doctor. I am not sure if I should go to a gyno/ob or a midwife? I want to try to have the most natural childbirth possible, but am also a little freaked out this being my first baby we are TTC.

Re: Midwife or Regular Doc?
i normally see a gyno for regular check ups and stuff, but i am definitely planning on switching to a midwife when i get my bfp.... midwives are supposed to be excellent with low-risk (normal) pregnancies and births; some say even better than obstetricians!
ETA: also, if you are looking for a natural childbirth, i understand that it is easier to avoid unnecessary interventions when you use a midwife rather than an obgyn.

Re: Midwife or Regular Doc?
I work with a midwife for a few reasons. Their c-section rates are significantly lower than traditional OBGYNs, and I'd like to avoid one if possible. I feel like I get more personal care and attention with my midwife (and as someone that's starting to TTC their first baby, I had questions coming out of my ears). Women that deliver with midwives seem to rate the experience more positively.
That being said, I absolutely wanted a midwife that was affiliated with a good hospital and has a relationship with docs, just in case.

Re: Midwife or Regular Doc?
Yes, the midwife I normally go to is in a doctors office with other regular gynocologists....Im just worried a regular doc would be more certified and would run more tests and stuff on me just in case....do you know what I mean?

Re: Midwife or Regular Doc?
i love the idea of using a midwife. one of my close friends has 3 kids and she used a midwife and didnt tear at all not even slightly on any of her vaginal births. she completely attributes that to the midwife.
where do you go about finding one? do most insurances cover a midwife?

ITA! I just don't know how to go about finding one who is affiliated w/ a doctor's office/hospital. I would prefer to use a midwife, in a birthing suite attached to a hospital. Is that even an option?
I think you shouldn't worry about more testing w/ using a doctor. Sometimes more intervention is not necessary. I think the fact that the midwife is working in the practice w/ the doctors is awesome. I would continue to use her.
