Midwife vs. Doctor

Hi Ladies

Just wondering if you could share why you chose to use a midwife over a doctor or vice versa...ThanksChat Icon

Re: Midwife vs. Doctor

I chose a midwife because I wanted a safe, low-intervention birth and that's what I got. Statistically, midwives use less intervention, have lower rates of c-sections and episiotomies and have just as good of outcomes as OBs do.

Well said! Ditto here!

ETA - I also appreciate the one on one factor. Over the course of the past 32 weeks I have really been able to see who my midwife is as a person, not just a healthcare professional. I really appreciate everything about her and I feel completely comfortable with her bringing my miracle into this world.

Re: Midwife vs. Doctor

The doctors practice I go to also has 10 midwives. They are all so fun and wonderful - at every monthly (and then weekly appointment) I got to meet a different one since you don't know who will be "on call" when you deliver. They were all so great and did not try to push what they thought a natural delivery should be like. They knew from the get-go that I wanted to be medicated and boy did they deliver!! I loved my midwife!!!!! I would recommend them to you but I live in Virginia now... sorry!
