Might be silly or should I be worried?
I was making dinner tonight and chopping up some chicken. DH was feeding the baby on the other side of the kitchen. Everytime I brought the knife down onto the cutting board it made a loud sound and the baby winced. Scrunched up his eyes like it was hurting him. He didn't really seem startled, more like a defensive reaction. He didn't cry. This is totally new.
Well, it's got me worried. I immediately called the sitter and asked her if he does that with her when there are loud noises, asked her if maybe my Dad was banging stuff around the house lately, or if maybe something fell near him and made a loud noise and startled him. She said nothing like that has happened.
Is this a normal developmental thing - like he's just realizing that loud noises bother him - or could it be something else? Am I being paranoid over nothing?

I think that its completly normal....James used to not notice alot of noices and then one day he seemed to start paying attention to the different sounds...he would jump at some of the loud sounds...but once he got used to them he was fine.

I think it is totally normal, I was clipping my nails and it was making a sound, something I have done in front of Claire many times with no problem, but one time she got all scared and started to cry like she was afraid, same thing happened with the vacuum.......she got over it quickly and it only happened once or twice.

Okay thanks... I kind of thought that's what it had to be, but it's that with him being in daycare for 9 hrs everyday I tend to worry about everything new that he does.

I think it's a normal startle reflex.
