Migraine sufferers and birth control
What do you use? Pills seem to bring my migraines on worse. The ring seems to be ok. Any suggestions?

Re: Migraine sufferers and birth control
I've often wondered if my migraines are worse because of birth control yet I never tried to get off of it. It is so nice to not have to worry about getting PG but then again it would be nice to not get the migraines. I guess I figured in a few years when I decide to have children I'll see if there is a difference.

I found that the pill made my migraines worse, I went off for 5 years and got the Mirena IUD in july and I haven't noticed any increase in my migraine frequency.

I never really noticed an association with BCP and migraines. I get them from other triggers. If anything, I would think they help by regulating your hormmones. In any case, like Pinky, I have the Mirena IUD and have no issues.

Same here. I've continued to get migraines on the pill or off.

Re: Migraine sufferers and birth control
I was on BCP for years before I got PG w/ DS. After having him I went back on the pill and the migraines returned w/ a vengeance!
I spoke with my gyn and he said I had two options, 1-change to a lower dose pill or 2- stop taking bcp.
He did not give me another option (nor did I want one) b/c we are going to be TTC again soon, so I wanted something I could easily stop using on my own

Re: Migraine sufferers and birth control
Oh, my gyn said that the pill regulates hormones for (with most brands) 21 days and then "stops" for the last 7 days of the month. This fluctuation in hormones can trigger migraines. In my case, this is what is occurring with me. He change me to a lower dose pill, I thin it's the generic of Yaz. It is 24 active pills and 4 "inactive" pills.

After being on the pill for many years, I had to stop.
Have you mentioned it to your OB? I had to be on a different pill.
Then I stopped after many years.

My gyno is aware about the migraines. I just picked up a sample of Mercette b/c pills. I'm hoping I have some luck with them. I hate not being on b/c but the migraines kill me.
