MIL is finally....
having stuff for DS in her house. We are tired of having to make sure we have everything when we go and visit. DH has been telling her for almost a year to buy things (diapers, wipes, etc.) in her house and finally she said ok. So DH is at Target now with her getting diapers, wipes, puffs, pudding, etc. for DS to have at her house.

That is what I say too. She tries to give him my niece's toys which are almost 17 years old to play with because she will not buy him new ones for her house. So we have to make sure that we bring him toys too.

Yes. Everything is the backyard was hers too. ILs said that now that it is nice out Michael can go outside and play with the toys outside. I told Michael that they are crazy because those toys are all dirty and disgusting. I just don't understand them yet at my Grandmother's house, she has diapers, wipes, bottles, bibs, etc. for DS, niece & nephew.

Maybe I don't know the whole story, but I wouldn't expect someone to buy all that stuff to keep at their house. If I felt they should have it at their house, I would go buy it. I hope this doesn't sound nasty, I'm just thinking maybe that's why it took her so long to go do it.

I kind of agree. My MIL hasn't bought a thing for DS and she begins watching him as "daycare" next week.

Re: MIL is finally....
We have kind of the opposite situation. My MIL buys her own diapers and wipes (even though I always bring them anyway) but it's my mom who is yet to buy any supplies. She also passes on my nieces old toys (that are 9 years old) and doesn't have any of the foods he snacks on, yet has a cabinet full of treats for my niece. I don't really get it, I think it's kind of weird. I even had to bring my mom a bouncy seat and stroller.

I agree. Why should she pay for things for your child?

I don't think that moms or MILs need to have a whole second set of everything that baby needs, but to have toys to keep at grandmas and some diapers or food would be nice.

I agree also. I put a travel swing at my parents and an old pack and play that was my SIL's. But I always bring my own diapers, wipes and formula to their house and we stay over their beach house a lot.

Re: MIL is finally....
my parents have a whole set-up 2 pack n plays which they dont use anymore, 2 high chairs a bunch of toys tons of food, diapers wipes..anything and everything that i would need..without them i would be screwed. Their house looks like mine..covered in toys and gadgets for them. Personally as grandparents you don't have to go crazy but i think they should buy and have stuff at their house for their grandkids..its what you do as parents you help your kids out..i would do it for my kids one day.

Re: MIL is finally....
I supply all that stuff to keep at my moms and bring it with me to my MILs.
My mom will buy Ella organic milk now, but I always provided the formula, diapers, wipes, etc. I also set her up with gear when E was younger (exersaucer and bouncy seat), since Ella's there often. I wouldn't expect those to be their expense.
When my MIL watched E, I make sure to leave her with enough diapers & milk.

Re: MIL is finally....
I have to say that I never expected either set of parents to provide anything at their houses for Lily. We bought diapers and wipes for them so they didn't have to. We bring formula anytime she's going to be there.
My parents had my old crib that they took out - so we bought them the matress. My husband's parents were talking about buying a PNP for when she sleeps over, but we bought it for them before they had the chance.
I'm grateful that they are so willing to watch my daughter - I want to make it as easy for them as possible!

I must say I agree! My son spends the night at my parent's house from time to time and we never expect them to get anything for him! We always bring his diapers and wipes. My mom always buys organic milk when she knows he will be visiting, even though I always tell her we will get it ourselves. My mom was going to buy the travel crib but we insisted on paying for it. If they are nice enough to help us out like that the least we can do is to to make sure they have everything they need to do so!

Re: MIL is finally....
We started out buying diapers, wipes and formula to leave at my parents, but now my mom just buys her own and sometimes even buys for us. As far as gear, my mom has some friends with grandchildren who are a little older than DD so they passed along a bouncer, a PNP, an exersaucer, a swing and some toys.
Personally, I think diapers, wipes and formula are the parents responsibility but I could see where you might hope the grandparents would have the snack foods that the grandchildren eat.

Re: MIL is finally....
I am sorry if I came across a certain way but you have to understand the situation. My niece (who is almost 17 years old) has always gotten everything she needed or wanted. Since my DS has been born my ILs have not brought him anything, which to me is not fair. DS does not stay over ILs house but when we cone to visit it would be nice to know that if for some reason we run out of diapers that we brought MIL has some there. If we forget to bring his snacks, at least she could have some there. That is what I meant.
