Mini Dental Implants while pregnant..
I am 6 weeks pregnant and on Halloween while I was at work ( i am a dental assistant) a 9 year old hit me in the mouth while we were doing a pediatric extraction (little baby tooth) and knocked out my front tooth, the rest ended up getting extracted that day. Needless to say, it is all healed up and I have been wearing a flipper (a small dental partial with a pretend tooth on it) so it looks like I have a tooth there. The mini implants are a non surgical implant where they bsaically just screw the implant into the bone, no surgery, no cutting, just novocaine and screw in the implant. At 6 weeks pregnant do you think it would harm the pregnany at all for a non-invasive procedure like that?? Would it cause any problems?? I am so tired of wearing my flipper.
What do you girls think? Any experience with what dental work can be done??

Re: Mini Dental Implants while pregnant..
So far this pregnancy I've had a cleaning, extraction, xrays and cavities filled and almost had a root canal (I chickened out literally on the chair). My dentist just spoke with my OB so they were both on the same page as far as what meds I could have and when. They both said not to have anything done until I was in my second trimester (I had the extraction at 16 weeks, the cavities filled at 23 or so).
They both agreed that it's safe to use lidocaine with no epinephrine. The epinephrine is the stimulant. Your dentist should know about that though. Other than that, everything is pretty much fair game. Better to get the dental work done if it's necessary and cannot wait. An infection would be worse.
But if it's just cosmetic then I guess it's really a personal decision. If there's no surgery involved and the dentist uses the lido w/o epinephrine, then I don't see the harm. Up to you.

Re: Mini Dental Implants while pregnant..
I had implants done, I think mine where different from the mini implants. I had to have posts drilled into my jaw which then had to heal for 6 months before the implants could be screwed into the jaw.
I spoke with my OB about it before getting pregnant, she had me do the surgical part before getting PG since it would require Xrays, pain mediation and antibiotics. She said Novocain (for the implant part) was fine in the 2nd trimester as long as it didn't have epinephrine in it.
I'd call your OB to see what they prefer, mine may be more conservative than others.
