Mini Vent (not really) Golden Books vs Disney Movies
Why must they totally divert from the movie? She’s been all about the ‘doggie’ book for awhile. That’s Lady and the Tramp for moms and dads. We have the movie. She wasn’t into it before. Seeing how much she loves the book though we thought it would be a good idea to let her see it again.
Yeah, Good idea? Ha! God laughs at best laid plans, right?
At first she’s glued to it. Amazed to see the ‘book’ come alive. And we talk about “remember when Daddy read that to you” and she’ll say “Oh like in my book”. But then things got strange.
Movie:
Jim & Darling leave for vacation and the Aunt arrives. The Siamese cat song (big winner) they tip over the fish bowl, twice nearly eat the fish and ruin the house.
Book:
The cats ‘nearly’ tip over the fish bowl but they don’t. Fish is safe.
Movie:
Lady runs away after the muzzle is put on and Tramp wrestles with 3 dogs, big fight and wins. No dialog. Tramp instantly knows who she is.
Book:
Lady runs away because she’s mad at Aunt. She can’t speak and Tramp jumps in front of three dogs, no fight. They say “oh no, it’s the tramp” and they leave. Tramp barely remembers her.
Movie:
Tramp takes Lady to the Zoo and tries to find the right animal to help take the muzzle off. Then he gets the Beaver to do it by saying it’s a new headgear to help pull his logs. Lady helps out too by saying a few things and posing the muzzle.
Book:
Tramp asks the Beaver and the Beaver is totally good with taking off the muzzle. Lady can't say a word.
Movie:
When the rat appears and Lady calls out, Tramp responds and asks how to get into the house. She answers through the door on the porch. Rat gets in, chase ensues. Rat jumps up on Cradle and Tramp jumps on cradle to get the rat, knocking the cradle (and baby) down.
Book:
Tramp jumps through an open window. Rat is already on the cradle. Rat falls to floor.
Movie:
Aunt shoves Tramp into a closet and Lady into a basement. Tramp is hauled off to the pound and Lady stays trapped until Jim & Darling come back that night.
Book:
Aunt shooes both dogs into the basement. Lady ‘escapes’. Tramp goes to the pound.
Movie:
Jock is behind the dog catcher carriage barking, Trusty is up front barking at the horses and spooks them. Carriage falls onto Trusty
Book:
Jock runs in front of carriage?
Movie:
That Christmas has Lady and the Tramp with puppies. Jock and Trusty come to visit. Trusty still in a bandage.
Book:
Jock & Trusty come to a wedding. Jock in his best plaid vest. Trusty in a bandage. Then a year LATER at Christmas there are puppies, but no Jock & Trusty visit.
So, with that many contradictions, it makes reading the story a lot harder. Since she can’t read she thinks WE aren’t reading the whole story and corrects us. She’s right so we encourage it but it’s maddening. We’ve both decided she can’t watch any more Disney movies that come from Golden Books we read her. That would be Bambi, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Lion King and Jungle Book, at least until she understands why they are different. Too bad *I* don’t know why they are so different. LOL

I've noticed that Disney movies are never the same as the original stories, so I'm not surprised that books based on Disney movies are not the same as the original.
