minivan/car seat question
we are going to be turning ds around at the end of the month and we are trying to decide which side to put him on... we want him to be switched to the side he will be permanently on when baby #2 comes in january...
if you have a minivan which side did you find was easier to have the older child on when the younger is in an infant carrier?? tia

Re: minivan/car seat question
My 3 year old is behind me and my newborn is behind the passenger and I can't stand it but I only have it that way because my eldest had to move the way back and I couldn't make my 3 year old change seats (he had enough changes to his life!). I will say I find it much easier, regardless of what side they are on, to get the stroller from the trunk first, then get my newborn out, then go around and unstrap my 3 year old. That way I don't have to have my 3 yr old standing in the parking lot while I get the baby.

Re: minivan/car seat question
I have my infant behind my seat & DD behind passenger & it works out fine b/c I find I reach back to her often to give sippy cup or toys, etc. Also when we get someplace I take DS out on street in carrier & she's on the sidewalk side.

Re: minivan/car seat question
We have the older child behind the driver and the younger behind the passenger. In the minivan it really didn't matter where the baby was, it was easy enough to get in and put him on the floor between the seats to buckle dd first.
In our sedan we had it set up the same way and if we were parked on a street I'd put the baby in first (since he was on the curbside) and have dd standing next to me the whole time and then we walked around the car together to put her in.

Re: minivan/car seat question
I have my oldest behind the driver, and the baby behind the passenger seat....I use the mirror, and the only good view I could get was with the baby in the passenger seat.

Re: minivan/car seat question
Proper locations should be:
Older child on the driver side.
Newborn on the passenger side.

Re: minivan/car seat question
We put Noah right now on the PAssenger side and if I were only having one new baby , it would have stayed that way b/c he is much more needy and I would need to be able to simply turn around and see him. None of my mirrors in the van can see the seat behind the drivers seat , and so if the newborn cried etc and I couldnt see, I would simply pull over , which is what I would do no matter what seat they were in anyway.
Hope that makes sense.

For your needs this does make snese. Please understand the suggestions that I post are what is called "Best Practice" But individual needs are taken into account. Some are simply argued more than others. Such as after market product and even the use of mirrors.
