Miracle Blanket Moms....

DS will not sleep w/o the miralce blanket.....I want him out of it but it's not working Chat Icon
So my question is if you relied on swaddling: when did you stop?
How did you stop? He's getting too big for it! He is 4 1/2 months old. He gets out of the blanket by morning. This is the only sleep problem we have....he is sleeping from like 8-9pm to 8am!

Re: Miracle Blanket Moms....

I currently still swaddle (off and on- more on though) and my DD is 6 1/2 mos. We just swaddle her arms and keep her legs out. By the time the morning comes she is practically out of the swaddle and on her stomach.

I have no answer as to how to stop but Chat Icon Chat Icon as it is hard to stop cold turkey. I am going to start swaddling lightly so getting out won't be so hard.

Based from what i've read- babies associate the swaddle with sleeping so you should try to replace it with something else that they can associate sleeping with. I am still working on this and am sure i will have to stop totally swaddling like soon- real soon

Re: Miracle Blanket Moms....

I had the QUEEN of the Miracle Blanket here and lord, it is probably WELL documented here on how we tried to "wean" her...

We finally were able to get her sleeping with just a blanket at around 8 months-ish...doc said it was fine and laughed at the fact that she loved it so...we were one arm out AND then legs out (she was shorter for her age so she didn't grow out of it until 7 months-ish) for about a month and a half before we finally stopped.
She was sleeping 12 hours a night, so I wasn't messing with that...

My advice, do what works...the only thing different from your situation is that Isabella never moved when she was swaddled...

I used the miracle blanket until about 4 months. He was getting too long and was able to get himself free, but the main reason I stopped was because he started rolling over and I was afraid that he would roll over at night and not be able to move with his arms swaddled up. I stopped swaddling cold turkey and he didn't sleep well for a few nights, but then he was okay. I started putting him in a sleep sack instead.

Sucessful weaner here at 6 2/3 months! She started rolling over so it was time. We went pretty much cold turkey. I figured instead of her sleeping crappy for 2 weeks while we did one arm out, two arms out, etc , we would just go cold turkey and you know what?
There was really only one bad night, and it wasn't even that bad ! She had more trouble adjusting to swaddle-less naps than overnights. And she's actually started sleeping a half an hour longer in the am. So it might not be as bad as you think. Good luck

oh yeah, we also use the sleep sack.
