Miralax--anyone give it to their DC for constipation?
My DD has been constipated on and off for the passed week and half. I spoke to the doc today and he recommended Miralax. Has anyone given it to their DC? Does it work well? Did DC have any problem with it?
TIA

Two of my friends have given it to their children. One was 18 months old and the other was 3. You have to play with the dose. The dose that was recommended for both kids was too much and it wasn't pretty. After they got the right dose, things were great. One kid was only on it as needed. The other one was on it for about 6 months. It works wonders.

Yeah, the doctor recommended starting with a 1/2 cup...I was I haven't bought it yet so I have to get it and look at it. It just sounded like a tremendous amount to me.
ETA: He must have said 1/2 cap full. So much for success with having a doctor with an accent and talking over the phone.

1/2 cup is a lot! Usually the dose is 1/2 of the miralax white cap.

Re: Miralax--anyone give it to their DC for constipation?
DS has been on it for about 8 weeks now. His issue was that he started witholding when we did PT and for a few weeks was going every 3 days then every 4 days and at one point he didnt go for nearly 5 day!!
Anyway, my ped said to try 1/2 a cap which is what we give (DS is 45lbs if that makes a difference) in the morning. He goes 1x per day now and its never been really bad that I had to decrease the amount of the miralax.
My SIL uses it periodically for my nephew who is 9 as he has always had issues with #2

Re: Miralax--anyone give it to their DC for constipation?
Dr recommended using morales for my two year old DS. I used a toddler spoon full of the powder in his night time bottle on mon, wed and Fridays. Dr. recommended 3x per week. It worked great,BM every morning! Good luck!

Re: Miralax--anyone give it to their DC for constipation?
DS has had constipation issues since 6 months old. He eats prunes everyday, drinks Benefiber, and supposititories stopped working for him. The doctor finally decided to put him on Miralax last week.
HOLY CRAP!!!! Literally! He is 3 1/2 and they told us to start on one capful per day, then after a few weeks to cut back to a half capful. He has no control over his bowels after two doses. Way too much for him!

My DD has been on it for a very long time unfortunately. We use 1/2 capful or less a day to keep her going as per ped.

Too funny but this exact same misunderstanding happened to me a month ago. I went to five drugstores looking for a Miralax that was in capsule form or one that said "cup" as dosage on the back. I then called the doctor's office again and they said "capful", not "cUpful".
Yes, we do use it for my three year old and it does work. As others mentioned, sometimes it can lead to runny stool after multiple days of continued use so now we do it maybe every 2 days to help my son out.
