Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
Having read through a dozen or so threads on the subject, I'm left with the following very specific TMI questions:
Many people mentioned having spotting . . . how heavy was it? Did you need to wear a liner everyday or something bigger?
For those that had spotting for more than just a week or so (I know someone said 6 months) - was it everyday, or random?
If you had spotting was insertion done during AF?
If insertion was done during AF, how did you know when AF stopped & spotting began?
Did spotting interfere with intercourse? If so how much interference?
For those that had the wonderful side effect of no AF . . . how did you first realize it was side effect of Mirena and not an oops?
Where you scared the first time you skipped AF?
For those that had the not so wonderful side effect of weight gain . . . how much did you gain? Over what amount of time? Have you been able to lose the weight? How long did that take?
TIA for any and all asnwers. Feel free to send FM if the answers are too personal to post.

Re: Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
I used Paraguard so not sure if they differ all that much...
I really didn't have any spotting at all....I just remember it was very painful to insert. I don't think I had it inserted during my period though so that may be why....
My periods were pretty heavy for the first few months and then tapered.......
Good Luck! I loved it!!!!

Re: Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
I spotted for 6 months It would skip days and then come back. It was very light, I only needed a pantyliner. I wasn't on AF when it was inserted. After about 6-8 months my periods became very light. I only needed to wear a pad for 1 day (I feel like it is too light to wear a tampon) then I wear pantyliners for a few days and thats it(before my IUD I had heavy periods that always lated at least 7 days). The spotting never effected my sex life because it was so light.
The last few months I have gained 10-15 lbs(the last 5 lbs fluctuate depending on where I am in my cycle) that never happened to me before the IUD.
The worst thing for me about it is the last few months right before my period starts I feel pregnant. I get nauseous, tired, grumpy, food aversions and bloated. Its like my body thinks I am pregnant, then I get my period and it all goes away.
also it didn't hurt to have it inserted.

Re: Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
I've only had Mirena for 4 weeks but here is my experience so far.
Cramping during insertion and for the rest of the day. It was not done while I had AF. I am breastfeeding so I may not get a period for a while anyways...
I spotted for two straight weeks, enough to wear a regular maxi pad. It was too much for just a liner. The last week I still have a tiny bit of spotting but its barely there and a liner is fine.
For me it did interfere with intercourse because I felt it was there was too much spotting at the time.
I have a good friend who has had it for much longer and she loves it. She said the beginning is tough, but now it's so worth it. I try to remember that!

Re: Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
Many people mentioned having spotting . . . how heavy was it? Did you need to wear a liner everyday or something bigger? I didn't have much spotting at all..... When I did a pantiliner was enough
If you had spotting was insertion done during AF?
If insertion was done during AF, how did you know when AF stopped & spotting began?I had mine inserted during AF. AF stopped and then about a week later I a had some spotting
Did spotting interfere with intercourse? If so how much interference?NO
For those that had the wonderful side effect of no AF . . . how did you first realize it was side effect of Mirena and not an oops? 8 months later I still get AF but it is very light
Where you scared the first time you skipped AF?
For those that had the not so wonderful side effect of weight gain . . . how much did you gain? Over what amount of time? Have you been able to lose the weight? How long did that take?
I gained about 13 lbs after getting MIRENA but I CAN NOT blame it all on the MIRENA. That would just be a lie. I actually gained about 10 lbs BEFORE getting the mirena and then another 13 after getting it.
I was overweight to begin with, yet I only gained 4 lbs during my pregnancy (actually lost in the 1st & 2nd trimesters and then gained it all back plus 4 lbs in the 3rd trimester). After having DS I was about 15lbs less than my pre-preggo weight and then I gained 10 lbs while home on maternity leave and then gained another 13 after getting the Mirena & going back to work I wasn't watching what I was eating or exercisng so I think that was my problem with the weight gain not the mirena
I joined weight wathcers in July and started running & exercising and I have lost 20lbs so far. I still have a lot more to lose but for me I don't believe the Mirena had/has any effect on my weight. It is VERY LOW in hormones in comparison to the pill.
TIA for any and all asnwers. Feel free to send FM if the answers are too personal to post.

Re: Mirena Users - Some Truly TMI Questions
I can only add a question to the mix........if a person tends to have breakthrough bleeding on BCPs, is that someone who would probably have spotting on Mirena? My doctor offered me Mirena but I haven't done it yet.
