Miscarriage...what to expect. updated
Just curious what to expect. How bad is it?
I have lost two other pregnancies but opted for d&cs. I think this time I am going to wait for it to happen on its own. The baby measured about 8 weeks w/ no hb so I am not that far along. Can anyone offer info?

Re: Miscarriage...what to expect.
I had a D&C so I don't have any info on miscarrying naturally. I just wanted to say I'm sorry.

Re: Miscarriage...what to expect.
First off, Im so so sorry for your loss
second- what does your Dr. Say?
With my early M/c ( 10 weeks) I miscarried fully and didnt need a D & C.
With my second recently my Dr said that you run the risk of hemmoraging with a M/C that a D & C can help avoid and it also will contract your uterus back to normal quicker then a natural M/C.
Im very Anti D & C and would avoid one if neccesary but if your not bleeding on your own , I would think it might be more harmful to just wait it out...mentally too?
I know with my last m/c....I didnt M/C till 13 weeks and the baby measured 7-8 weeks ....so I went almost 5 weeks before my body decided to do it's thing. Can you put yourself through that?
I'm rambling a bit, hope Im making sense.
Sorry again for what yoru going through.

Re: Miscarriage...what to expect.
Uggh, I do not want to be waiting 5 or more weeks. I am all for d&cs and have had two of them. My concern is that with a thrid d&c I run more of a risk of complications. Since I may want to have another child, I do not want to damage my uterus.
HAs anyone been through 3 or more d&c's with no complications? I would be interested to here anyone else experiences.
Thanks again.

Re: Miscarriage...what to expect. ? added about multiple d&cs.
I am so sorry for your losses...
My doctor confimed that my pregnancy was not viable at 9 weeks. I was scheduled for a D&C, but had to reschedule the appt. In the meantime, I had begun to miscarry naturally. It wasn't horrific, but the cramping was pretty intense...I found myself on the bed in a fetal position once or twice, but I also went out to dinner (believe it or not) that night too and I made it through. A lot of bleeding and changing of pads, but nothing over the top for me.
Later that evening, I called my doctor to let her know what was going on and she prescribed me a medication that is meant to contract your uterus and expel its contents. I shouldn't have read the internet because it seemed like a horror story, but I went through with it...and it was like nothing.
In the end, I avoided the D&C, but she did do some hmmmm...uncomfortable procedure in her office to complete the whole thing. That was the worst part for me.
I would say everyone's situation is different. I don't have info regarding D&Cs but feel it's probably best to heed your doctor's advice on that one.
Best of luck...

First of all, lots of to you, lots of good things to come your way soon!
Can you ask your doctor about a dose of Mifepristone, thats the medication that Eireann was talking about. You can take a dose, and in about 2 days you can miscarry. I had it when I had my miscarriage at 19 weeks, it wasn't pleasant, but it was all over quickly. You might want to ask your doctor about it.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the I need some.
I have not spoken to my ob about this yet (my specialist diagnosed the missed miscarriage) so I will definately ask him about medication and what he thinks is best. I really appreciate everyone sharing there stories, it really does help. I am relieved that it sounds survivable.
Thanks again!

I had 2 d&c's back to back - 3 months apart.
I'm 5 months pregnant now and have not had any complications. I asked my doctor at my last appt if I should expect any complications down the line because of the D&C's, he said no.
I'm sorry you are going thru this
I agree with the prior poster. It may be a while before your body decides to miscarry. And that is a horrible wait.
my 2nd - i went to see doctor @ 10 weeks, baby was only measuring 6 weeks. I had no signs of a miscarriage. My beta's started to drop at 11 weeks, right before my d&c.
Call your doctor, ask what complications can arise after 3 D&C's.

Re: Miscarriage...what to expect. ? added about multiple d&cs.
So although my infertility specialist said that d&cs could cause complications, my ob told me that he has not seen a complication in 15 yrs...from any doctor. He says they now use plastic instruments that do not harm the uterus. He actually seemed to think that my specialist was ridiculous. Anyway, I have decided to have a d&c on Monday.
Thanks for all the support and info.
