Miserable
I am miserable at my job. I thought I was highly valued an a great asset to the company, and last Wednesday the "boss" tells me that I am negative when I come in every day and she does not feel I work hard enough in doing my job.
This "boss" is not even in our office. And the person I am an assistant to, never mentioned a problem to me..but apparently goes blabbing to her that i am not doing something right...
I have been here almost 7 years....and never had an accusation like that before. I am very hurt by it, and when I defended myself she literally was yelling at me, and then pointed to me and said, "look at me when I am speaking to you".
I have been in insurance since I have been out of college...so I don't really know anything else at this point.
I am down and out and sad I also feel embarassed that she took that tone of voice with me and did not even let me explain myself. I am the only one in the office who leaves personal at home. My husband doesn't even call me..and I certainly am not a negative person---I am the go-getter.
I feel so beaten up.
needless to say, my job search has started.

Re: Miserable
Instead of crawling up in a ball and taking it up the butt, sit down with your immediate boss and talk it out. Schedule 30 mins on the calendar and make it happen.
If you were under the impression nothing was wrong and all of a sudden you are smacked in the face something is off. You were never given any constructive feedback and to hear it this way certainly doesn't lend itself to upping your morale and wanting you to do better.
Clear the air even if you don't stay. You need to leave on good terms.

Re: Miserable
I did sit down and talk it out with him, and got nowhere. He said there are some things he would like to be improved and instead of talking it out with me, he said he talked it out with her. I will leave on good terms when I do leave, as that is my character. Last year I got a review that said I was "too nice and accommodating".
I will plug on, doing the best I know how to do, and in the meantime, look for something new.

Did you happen to explain it to him that him talking it out with his boss does nothing to improve things? How does yelling at you improve things?

Re: Miserable
Sounds like you need to call your HR dept. There is no way you shld be spken too like that and you need to iron out what is expected from you and visa versa from your employer. Get this and any concerns in writing. Once you and your boss are on the same page and HR is there to protect you both then it shld be less stressful.
Hope this all works out, seems like you want to stay & you appreciate your job.
Good Luck.
