Missing school for family vacations

With the holidays coming up, what are your feelings about missing school for family vacations / holiday trips to visit family out of state?

You're going to get a lot of different opinions on this. I posted something similar a month ago. The responses ranged from "hey no big deal, do what works for your family." To "pulling your kids out of school is teaching them that education is not important."
Personally, I don't see the problem. But that's coming from a mom who has every intention of pulling their kid in the spring, possibly even the last week of school too.

I also agree with Nicole, do what works for your family. My cousin recently told me about her friend who is pulling the child out of school for a month to go back to their country. I couldnt believe it but again those that wont do it at all think my 1 week would be too much. So in the end I wouldnt use others opinions to make me feel good or bad about my opinion. I would just do what is right for my family.

Yes it was discussed with lots of varying opinions...if you dont get too many responses, do a search under nferrandi's name for more feedback. My opinion on the subject in a nutshell: it depends. On your child, your family, your income, etc. This is definitely one of those very subjective topics.

Re: Missing school for family vacations

Income comes into play because it is significantly more expensive to travel during school breaks as opposed to a random week.

Im so quilty of doing this, most of the times the prices are so much cheaper going right before or right after a holiday. I will be doing it again next year.
