Mohonk Mountain House - New Paltz

Has anyone gone hiking or stayed at Mohonk? I want to go this weekend for our anniversary, but can make a decision. If you have been there or know of someone who has, can you share the experience w/ me? I want to go....but we can only go for one night.....

Thanks!

I think ALOT of ladies had stayed there from LIW. Try searching on LIW for it.

Re: Mohonk Mountain House - New Paltz

I've been there on day trips with my family (went there a couple of times for Thanksgiving). It's beautiful!!! Definitely worth seeing once in your life, especially at this time of year.

Do you think a day trip is satisfying? I want to hike and have lunch there.

I went for a day trip with my office. The hike was nice--the scenery is beautiful.

The house itself, I found smelly. It smelled like one of those old, restored houses you visit on vacation. I can't imagine sleeping there overnight.
Also, the rooms are very expensive & have no tvs.

The lunch was buffet--it kinda reminded me of a school cafeteria. You have to book a lunch or dinner reservation in order to use the house, but you don't have to if you just want to use the grounds.
I'm not sure what dinner is like.

I had never heard of this place untill my boss booked it--I'm surprised to hear how popular it is on LIW/ LIF.

I've been wanting to go here for such a long time...we've just never made it there. I would say that a day trip there is definitely worth it...

I have a friend who has been there and said it was gorgeous.

Re: Mohonk Mountain House - New Paltz

a cafeteria school lunch? was that in the main dining room or a private one since it was your office? smelly house? Well, they have a room for $479 for one night includes all the meals....Maybe we can do dinner reservations and hike etc....for the day and scope out the place and return another time....

It was the main dining room. There are only about 12 of us. I think dinner might be nicer. My boss loves the place. I just didn't really see the appeal.

Dinner requires a jacket, surprisingly DH said okay to that....

anyone have any B&B suggestions. DH said NO to the $500+ for a one nights stay, even though food is included.

What about this one? I lived up there, and actually prefer Rhinebeck to New Paltz, and that was voted one of the 10 best inns in America. Or this one This one in Nantucket

this one looks beautiful

And I personally want to go here to Newport! Newport

I stayed at a really cute little B&B right in the New Paltz area-- Jingle Bell B&B

I think it was about $175 a night. The owner is really nice and makes great breakfasts! :)

Re: Mohonk Mountain House - New Paltz

I have been hiking there dozens of times, and have stayed at Mohonk House about 4-5 times. IT is truly amazing there. The views are out of this world from the house, and its expensive but soooo worth it.

The Hiking on the preserve is great, there are waterfalls and lots and lots of different trails.

We have done day trips too, many times, just for hiking/lunch...worth if for just the day as well!
