Mommies of crawlers .....
if they are not in daycare how long do you let your child have of free play crawling around your house in a day?????
i always feel as if it is never enough what with chores and errands he is always being put in his play pen or car seat
i let him have free play around 1 hour a day is this enough ??? we dont have any area in the house that is fenced off and safe right now shpuld i invest in some gates or are they a waste .????
oh we do Gymboree 1 to 2 times a week a well

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
Why not plop yourself down on the sofa and sit down with the kid for a few hours. Thats what I did, let the kid crawl around, follow me around the house, we watched TV together, did stuff around the house together. He just crawled around the place all the time.
Deffo get some gates!!!

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
I usually let DS crawl and follow me around. However, if I was running downstairs to change the laundry or had to run upstairs to get something, I put him in his walker or jumperoo.

Just you sit and let him play in the living room...let him follow you around.

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
On the weekends, I vary it up - depending on his mood - or later mornings, like this one where I go in later....
For example, this morning, after his bottle, I sat on the floor and played with him, and he followed me around, as rachee says... I also read him a few books as he rolled all over my legs.... If he crawled away, I would pull him back, tickle him, or find some toy to mesemerize him back... I had laundry to fold, so I let him roll all over me and the laundry while I folded it...
then, when he gets very devlisih, and going for everything he can't play with, thats when I put him in the PNP - thats when I know he's in the mood to play with stuff and not really crawl around... there are soooo many little toys and knick knacks in his pnp theres hardly room for him, but he loves it that way - endless amounts of little noise rattles, bells, etc to keep him entertained!
When he cries, I just take him out and play with him again.
I save the really time consuming chores for when he naps....

It is definetely exhausting! But DS is not a fan of his walker or jumperoo any longer. I can get maybe 5-10 min. in either.
When you put him on the floor do you give him toys that will keep him busy? I give DS blocks, books, stuffed animals, and other toys and I switch them up every few minutes when I see him getting bored with what he has. Seems to keep him pretty busy.

the fact that he is into everything and with 1 dog and 2 cats it makes life alitle more complicated
also he isnt interested in any toys when he is down he just wants to crawl everywhere and pull up on everything. he will only play with his toys in the play pen which he seems to love and never cries to get out. so my fear is if im not on him every second he could get hurt

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
time to babyproof.. or it's going to be a tough few years Put up gates, socket covers, locks on cabinets and drawers (she has one cabinet in the kitchen I let her get into)... my kids have always had free reign of the house... they are happier when they get to explore.. I just make sure that I have the house completely babyproofed... The only time she is in the jumperoo is if I am taking a shower or if I go downstairs to do laundry.

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
I let DS have free roam (of course supervised) of the kitchen, DR and LR. Everything else is gated off and of course everthing is babyproof. Now that DS walks, he had free roam only the DR and LR. I let him play in the kitchen only if I am there with him.
If I had to take a shower or mop the floor etc I would put him in the PNP or the jumperoo.

Re: Mommies of crawlers .....
welcome to the world of mobile babies!
i didn't fence my dd in, and the same will go for #2, i let her have roam of the house and just followed her and started teaching her what's for her to touch and what's not. Babies love to explore their world. She actually only spent an hour max a day in her pnp-while i showered, the rest of the time when she wasn't taking her 2 naps, she was playing on the floor in my living room.
I gated my stairs, put outlet covers in, and locked the cabinets under the sinks. And let her go.
A baby is naturally curious, it's our jobs to make sure they can explore and to teach them about their world.
I used to be a bit nervous, but it's so much easy to let things go.
I know i'll never say 10 years from now, i wished i spend more time vacuuming my rug and cleaning the kitchen. I know i'll never get this time back with my girls and it goes so fast.

I always say the same thing! I always say that I won't spend any time saying "I wish I had spent more time cleaning my house" when my kids are grown up!
Get baby proofing Gemma!!!
