Re: Mommies of infants?
I got this off another chat site. Food for thought.
"According to the FDA web site, there is 'flu vaccine being produced with only trace amounts of thimerosal (see below for what to speak to your pediatrician about).
And I do need to remind people that a few days of discomfort is not the biggest risk if your child gets 'flu. 'Flu can and does kill otherwise healthy children, as it did our first son Max, whom many of you knew as a robust, happy, energetic child . Those who write that the shot only protects from some strains are correct -- Max had a 'flu shot in fall 2004 that did not contain the strain that lilled him in April '05. Still, all my conversations with pediatricians and with other families who have dealt with such deaths has led me to conclude it's better to be protected against some strains than against none. A good resource for info is: http://www.families fightingflu. org/

Ours did too. I am choosing not to get it, but DH most likely will since he's involved in the schools.

I saw the pediatrician today and they strongly recommended DH and I get flu shots since DD is too young. We will get the shots.

I never got one, never will. I never had the flu. Cailen gets enough shots, I am not having him get one either.

We will all get the flu shots here. With Jake just starting school and having a 5 month old I think it is a good idea.

Re: Mommies of infants?
Honestly, I doubt it--we don't even have a primary care doctor
Katherine will get hers in a couple of weeks and Abigail can get hers at 6 months (in Nov.), but I'm not going to give it to her because I'd need to start eggs with her before that and I don't want to--at 5 months she's not even up to fruits yet.

Mostly likely the same here. Plus DH is always sick once the winterh its so I have to urge him to get it. I am on the fence since. I have never got it and I don't get sick that often (as I sit here with a horrible cold today). I will get it for my 2 year old though.

Re: Mommies of infants?
DW and I will both be getting it. When the options are a shot, with a tiny bit of soreness for a day versus a potentially deadly, or, at best case, a temporarily debilitating disease, we are definitely getting it. For us, it's not worth the risk of *not* getting the shot.
And, heidla, I'm so sorry for your loss.... Hopefully, stories like yours can save other children's lives.
