Mommies of newborns
What does your DC's day look like? My son naps a lot in his swing and PnP and spends a lot of time laying down. I try to pick him up, walk around the house and talk to him as much as possible, but he spends the majority of time laying down...Im petrified of flat spots though! Also, he hates tummy time...what else can I do to keep him from laying down a lot? Or is this a normal phase which will pass once he starts to sit up?
Thanks!

Re: Mommies of newborns
That sounds exactly like our day. Most is spent in the swing. I try to hive her some tummy time but within 2 min she's crying.
I also try to have her spend time on her back on the play mat & sometimes I'll put her in her bouncy seat and turn on Baby Einstein. I'll also talk to her & dangle toys in front and have her follow them from side to side.
I started reading to her before I put her down to bed as well.
I'm not to worried about flat spots. She's pretty good about switching sides on her own.

Re: Mommies of newborns
DS is almost 11 weeks .. he basically sits in his swing, his bouncy chair. He lays in his crib and watches his mobile or rainforest soother. He'll lay on the changing table and we sing songs. He sleeps ALOT.

Re: Mommies of newborns
My DS naps alot, I try to let him nap in different places so his head is off in different directions (boppy, crib, swing, etc) Its not flat yet
My typical day:
8:30/9am - out of bed, feed (BF), bath, then DS is awake until around 11am (I shower at 10am and he is in his boppy ...in the bathroom w/me.... and usually falls asleep in it while I blow dry my hair)
11am-1pm nap (usually straight thru but sometimes he catnaps and is up inbetween and will be alert in his boppy or I carry him around the house doing stuff, tummy time, etc)
1pm - bottle, 6oz, then most days nap again after (usually a broken nap, but any awake time he is calm, wants to be held, etc)
5pm - bottle, 6oz, then is awake usually until bedtime
9:30pm - feed (BF) and hes put down for bed even if he is wide awake. Sometimes it takes 45mins to get him to sleep.
3:30am - feed (BF) 8:30am/9am we start again!

So I guess as long as he is switching sides he should be ok, right? He has a very good range of motion with his neck and is always moving it from side to side...even in his sleep. I guess I am overreacting, but I wanted to see what you girls are doing...

My son is on a similar schedule, except that I still feed him 4 oz every 3 hours from 9am until 6pm...then I nurse throughout the evening and at night.
Thanks everyone...I guess sometimes I don't know what to expect and I feel guilty if he is napping throughout the day and I go about my business...but I do spend time with him when he is up, and we play and talk a lot...he coos to me during that time and is starting to laugh out loud...I love it!

Re: Mommies of newborns
That sounds about right. Eat, sleep, awake for a bit, eat, sleep....etc...
If you see that your DC is sleeping on one side of his head all the time, when he is awake and is in his bouncy seat, etc. you can roll up a burp cloth or towel and prop it on that side of his head so he is forced to look the other way. That's what my ped said to do.

Re: Mommies of newborns
I was scared of him getting flat head as well so what I did is everytime he fell asleep during the day I moved him on his tummy... he actually napped better that way... but of course you have to sit by him just to makes sure he is ok...

Re: Mommies of newborns
I wonder if our parents worried about us getting flat heads. Something tell sme they didn't and we all turned out fine! My mom rolls her eyes at some of the things that we are told to do these days.

Re: Mommies of newborns
Our day is similar. Her long nap is in the morning from 1 1/2 to 2 hours and she is pretty much up, in my arms or in the infant seat for the rest of the day until her 4pm small nap. I did notice that she is getting a bald spot in the back of her head though!
