mommies who BF (waking baby)
During the day, did you wake your baby for feedings?
If you did, did it help them sleep better at night?

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I did but he was jaundice so he had to nurse every two hours in the beginning. At two weeks old he was only getting up once at night to nurse.

If he was asleep I let him sleep. He woke pretty regularly on his own.

I let him sleep. If I tried to wake him, he would just fall asleep while nursing.

Hi mama! I don't wake DD. I try to feed her about every 2 hrs. during the day and feedings are finally beginning to stretch out during the night (I hope I'm not jinxing myself). Some days she sleeps more often, but I let her sleep b/c I read that sleep begets more sleep. I'll just feed her more frequently when she's awake during the day. I think that when I feed her more during the day that she is more satisfied going to bed. Who knows, but it seems to be working (cross my fingers).

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I never woke her (though she never slept that well during the day)...she slept through the night (10-5) from about 10 weeks...before that, she was up about every 4 hours

that is what I hope too. She usually goes to sleep at 11, then up at 2, then 5. She wakes all on her own at night.
I hate trying to wake her during the day, but anything for more night sleep would be great!!!!

It took a little while for my DS to figure out his days and nights but by 6-8 weeks he was good (since I was home I didn't have a problem sleeping til noon)

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I wake DD during the day, not all the time, but I definitely do it. I am afraid if she doesn't get as many feedings during the day she will wake up sooner at night. So far, it has worked for us. She gets her last feeding around 11ish and then sleeps until 5 or 6. I then feed her at 5 or 6 and she goes back to sleep for at least another hour, which has saved my sanity. Eliminating the 2-3am feeding makes me feel like a real person again! I also think it helps her to keep her days and nights straight. Everyone tells me not to wake a sleeping baby but I am really afraid to see what would happen if I didn't. I think she would sleep all day and want to eat all night. HTH

That is how I feel. I just wish I could eliminate the 2am one. 11, 2, 5 is too often

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I never woke DD during the day, if I did she would fall asleep on the breast. But I did feed her often during the day (never more than two hours apart if she was awake) so that she would sleep well at night. It worked! She slept through the night early on.

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I didn't wake her. She slept more like 3-4 hours during the day from the beginning instead of the 2 hour feedings they recommend and she slept great at night. but not waking her to nurse her completely diminished my supply so it kind of ruined our BFing experience. so unfortunately it's a double edged sword I guess. I didn't want to ruin her sleep but it's still ended up hurting us. Who knows if waking her would've fixed it though.

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I had to make sure my son ate every 2-3 hours so in the beginning I did have to wake him. That was only because he was a pretty small baby and lost a significant amount of weight in the first few days of life. once he was 1 lb above birthweight though they told me i could stop waking him.

Re: mommies who BF (waking baby)
I never woke him during the day or night to feed unless the nap during the day went longer than 4 1/2 - 5 hours.
