Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
Keep your DC's occupied?
DD is 8.5 months old and won't play on her own for more than 20 minutes. She wants to crawl, walk, have my attention, and teething isnt helping. All of those behaviors totally normal for her age. I do not want to plop her in front of the tv either.
how do you get work done?
I didn't take that into account when i said i would work from home
I have no idea how i will get work done

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
I used her nap times to get a lot of it done. I also did things either when she went to bed or before she got up.
Now that I have no.2 on the way and DD is 14 months, I'm thinking about hiring someone to come to the house for a few hours a day.
Try not to worry too much - It'll work out!

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
I try to get things done during nap times and I will sometimes put in a video to keep Jack occupied for a little while. I also put him in a three day a week toddler preschool so that helps me. Molly, who is just about 3 months is such an easy baby, so I think I will be able to handle two while working from home. I go back next Thursday.

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
This is what i fretting. I can't believe i didn't figure this out before! I am just a worker bee, and work attracts me.
DD does not nap. She takes 2 20-30 min naps a day. I barely get to shower everyday.
I really didn't want to have work after hours, I guess my expectations on this are wayyyy off. I guess i figured i could do what i do at the office and keep the same hours while I am at home.
I am totally not prepared for this. I think i might have made a mistake to agreeing to this....I start next wednesday!!!
I am going to cry, wait i already did that all morning Damn pg hormones

- You may have to change your expectations about what you can do when, but you will be able to do it. Don't fret!

I would probably have the same problem if I tried to work from home. Can you get a mother's helper to come after school since a junior high or high school kid wouldnt' charge very much. Maybe for 2-3 hours a day?

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
I try to do things if and when she naps... I do things while she plays near me for a little while. I know you said you don't want to plop her in front of the tube, but a 20 minute baby einstein video won't kill her, I do this no more than once/day and give her a biter biscuit at the same time, keeps her happy. And I do a little after she goes to bed or when DH gets home...somehow it works out...good luck!

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
I work full time from home and believe me its a challenge
Now that DD is 11 mths she wants me to play with her all the time. I let her watch a little t.v in the morning but thats it...it gives me a chance to respond to emails, make some calls etc...
The morning is okay as she naps but the afternoon can be painful....I am trying to find someone to come to the house for a couple of hours each day to play with her so I can get some work done.
I end up working nights and some saturday mornings...my DH is not happy about this arrangement but we need the money so for now we just have to suck it up!
I think getting someone in would help you a lot.
At the end of the day despite the stress of being in the middle of an important phone call and my DD starts to wail or else turns on one of her very noisy toys the joy of seeing her every day makes up for it

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
I am lucky that DD usually takes 2 - 1 Hour naps. I try to do some stuff during that time. Whatever I don't get done, I have to do when she goes to bed, which luckily is around 7:30. She doesn't play well by herself either. Good luck. Its not easy. P.S. I am also trying to plan my wedding which is in June! Not fun to fit all of that in.

Re: Mommies who work from home..How do you...???
Don't worry - you can do it! I did a few projects at home while I'm on leave. Of course it's much easier when they take long naps and are occupied in the swing.
Do you have to be available during the day? Is it possible to do the work after DH gets home and after she goes to sleep for the night?
Many people do it - it is definitely hard but doable. You might also want to hire a helper, maybe a young girl after school to come by and entertain her for a few hours. Good luck!
