Mommys with children far apart in age....
My DS will be over 10 when i have my ...they are my only two..(my sister and i are also ten years apart coincedentially)
My son is VERY mature, very smart, very sentimental, very intellectual for his age..weve been through alot together as i am on my second marriage..so ive been down the "its you and me kid" block with him...we are best friends..
He has displayed ALOT of interest in being there when i actually give birth to his sister..part of me doesnt even wanna think of denying this to him..it could be the most AMAZING thing he EVER sees in his life..i want him to feel the closeness i feel with her immediately so as not for him to think maybe theres a new kid in town type of thing..but im scared..what if i freak out, what if something goes wrong..what if seeing me in so much pain is hard for him,... i do have my DH and my BFF who will be in the delivery room with me, so im thinking that if it gets uncomfortable, my BFF will take him out and entertain him.. what do you think? Should i even attempt this? It means alot to both of us ;) Hes been waiting for a "family" for a very long time.

Can you start by talking about it and maybe showing a video so he knows what to expect? I would be afraid he would see the blood, fluids, and the screaming/crying/moaning and possibly freak out a bit.

Re: Mommys with children far apart in age....
My oldest son and my 6 month old re 10 years apart, my son was there while I was in labor but I had a C-section and of course he wasn't in the room for that, he was very excited and it made him feel apart of it especially since he waas about to be a big brother. I don't think he would have been in the room anyway if I was having a vaginal birth, too much for him to see.... lol

lol i agree totally...i have to say though, my son and i were in a bad accident a few months ago, i passed out, and the car was totalled, he was more then a TROOPER..with glass all over his lil lap, and both of us in pretty bad shape, any time i "came to" he kept saying, "im right here mommy, its ok, im not afraid"...and ya know what? he really wasnt...he told me after that once he heard me talking, he was fine.. i just dont know if seeing my um "parts" would tramatize him lmao i remember being grossed out by my mothers big boobs at that age lolllllll

My son was 8 when DD was born and I wouldn't have allowed him to watch the delivery. It's just too much for a child IMO. Actually I think the hospital said they had to be 12 and up, but that probably varies so I would check with yours.

DD was 7 when DD#2 came along. I never even thought of allowing her in the room although I knew I was having a c/s. She came in minutes after.

Re: Mommys with children far apart in age....
that is probably true of the age thing, when i was admitted last month, my DH told them he was 12 to get him up to see me..he looks like he could be, hes a big boy.. ill ask at my next appt
ETA: i DO have to say, at 7 or 8, i couldve NEVER even have fathomed it..hes a different kid at 10..its almost like hes grown into a little adult.. the ONLY reason im considering it.. 7 or 8 it probably wouldve NEVER happened for him..
