Mom's Already...
When did you give birth to your twins. My friend just had hers at 33 weeks and i was reading a book that most twins come between 34-36 weeks. Just wondering what the norm is. Also if you can tell me if they babies had any NICU time.

Mine were born at 37 weeks, they were considered full term and had no NICU time.
My doctor also had another patient at the same time as me who was also 37 weeks. Wierd, we both had them within a day of each other!
Pre-term labor is very common with twins, thats why its crucial to take it easy.

I had mine at 36 weeks and they both were fine and came home with me. I was lucky though...I started have premature labor at 22 weeks and from that time on was on bed rest both at home and in the hospital, but mostly in the hospital.

Induced at 35 weeks, had them at 35.5 weeks. For one of my sons, one week of NICU since there was a heart issue we knew about prior to birth, and he needed a procedure. For the other son, he had a 29 day stay because he had IUGR, interuterine growth retardation, and he was much smaller then he should have been and wound up getting Necrotizing entercolitis. He was set to go home at one week after birth until he got NEC, even though he was under 5 lbs. I would have gone longer if not induced.

No problem.
I was induced since ond of my sons was significantly smaller then the other. THey were watching thier weights and one was gaining and the other wasn't. They decided that at that point one was 6 10 and the other 3 10 that the smaller baby needed to be outside of me to gain more weight. He was not getting enough inside, and at that point it was better he was outside then inside.

if you don't mind me asking how is your son that had the NEC? is he feeding well? any residual problems and did he have to have surgery? sorry for the questions.

Not me but my friend had her twins at 29 weeks. She, in retrospect felt some labor related things a week or so before but she was not seeing a high risk Dr they never really told her what to look for(she also developed GD) Her babies were born at 3'8 and 2'12. The bigger one was in the NICU for about a month and the smaller one about 2 mos. They needed help to ****, swallow and breathe. The little one has AR and sometimes has trouble feeding. She is not a big eater. She weighs about 10 lbs now at 5 mos and the biggetr one about 14 lbs. They are both doing really good. They look like younger babies but the Dr said they should catch up. I think the most important thing is to pay attention to your body. She realized she had lost her mucous plug but didn't realize it. She also walked all around with her step daughter the day before.

I can add from other's experiences:
SIL 21 years ago - 31 weeks both in NICU for 6 months at U Pitt
SIL 4 years ago - 38 weeks ( 2 mos bedrest, identicals)
1 in NICU for GBS infection for 1 day at LIJ
1 friend - 40 weeks, no NICU, Stony Brook
Another friend - I think between 37-39, no NICU I think at SB
I saw another identical girls at 34 or 36 weeks (I forget), in NICU for about 2 or 3 days at SB
I think it partly depends on your Ob's threshold for delivery and the hospital's threshold for NICU admission/discharge. Some places are more conservative than others...

I don't mind at all. He was taken off foods for 10 days and put on antibiotics. We started on small feedingsa nd then he was sent home after he was taking the amount that was acceptable, there is a formula for thier weight and ounces.
When we got home we were not aware of the fact that he still could develop scar tissue at a later date and it wound up that at 8 weeks old he started vomiting and was not keeping all feeds down. He had a blcoked intestine and needed 2 - 3 inches of his colon removed and was in the PIC for a week. Now he is doing great and there is no residual complications resulting from it. He is still smaller but getting bigger and bigger every day.
