Moms, Can you describe a Contraction Please...

I have not had and Braxton Hicks or at least none that I have realized.
I am now 37 weeks and feel like I have no idea what to expect when a contraction comes on.
I never really feel my uterus get hard in waves or anything like that. I just seems a lot harder to me at night. I am most uncomfortable at night.
Thanks. I am just feeling kind of frustrated.

For me it was like a cramp in my abdomin and then it would radiate up my back.

I was the same way I was afraid that I wouldn't know what they were but people told me that you will know when they come. But basically they feel like AF cramps then they get stronger and stronger

For me it was a mix of really bad AF cramps - really bad gas pains - and feeling like I had to have a BM.

Thats the closest to how it felt for me... In the beginning it was mostly in my back... It felt like my back was AF cramping, and gonna fall out...

My contractions weren't that painful in the beginning. I only realized what was happening because of the timing of the cramps. Don't worry too much, I've never heard of someone not realizing they were in labor. Chat Icon

Not to be gross...but imagine the worst stomach pain that you had when you have to go to the bathroom (#2). The pain comes and goes.

I've been REALLY nervous about this myself because apparently my mother never knew she was in labor, and a couple of weeks ago I was in the hospital and they hooked me up and it showed I was contracting every 2 mins, but I felt NADA. But, never fear, in the last 2-3 days I've started feeling them (OUCH). It feels like AF cramps that come in waves every few minutes and sometimes wrap around to my back. Fortunately, or unfortunately (however you look at it) they go away in about 40 minutes or so... now I understand when people say "you'll know" Chat Icon

Me too, when I went to my dr in the am. he said I was talking and smiling too much to be in labor, so they were probably braxton hicks. But by 10pm that night, no more laughter for me Chat Icon

Re: Moms, Can you describe a Contraction Please...

I am pretty positive that I've been getting contractions on and off since this weekend, mainly when i'm doing a lot of walking, moving around, etc. for me it's like cramping in my lower abdomen, and i feel my whole belly getting really really tight and hard. It lasts for like 40-50 seconds, then goes away. If I sit down and rest they also pretty much go away but if I'm up walking around a lot I have them pretty regularly.
