moms... have questions about lighting in babys room
Im ordering shades for the baby room. The shades in all the other rooms in our house let a lot of light though,. During the day... i dont even have to open them, light comes right in and I love the the house is bright. Do you find in the babys room you need it to be dark when he / she naps? SHould I get black out shades? Let me know what you have on the windows and if it works for you? Thanks!

Re: moms... have questions about lighting in babys room
My kids are accustomed to sleeping in PITCH BLACK DARKNESS lol so I have blackout curtains in my son's room and my DD has shades in her room.

The blinds we have keep the room dark but not so dark you can't see. We like it in our room as well.
I found they weren't necessary for DD but I like them at night when there can be bright headlights outside.

Re: moms... have questions about lighting in babys room
Honestly - I never bought the black out shades.
And only for the main reasoning of - I don't want my DD to have to sleep in complete darkness. Meaning - I didn't want it to have to be VERY dark every time she wanted to nap - like at someone else house, store, or what have you.
Did that make sense? I hope so

We have black out shades. DDs room was just too bright without them.

I have regular blinds and they work just fine.

I'm fortunate to have a baby that will sleep with light so I just have regular curtains.

I bought shades from home depot, the ones that block out the sun light totally.

same here. Ella doesn't even have shades, just drapes.
My SILs kids need silence and complete blackness to sleep- she has to hang blankets over windows at my MILs. I didn't want to go down that road.

Re: moms... have questions about lighting in babys room
I have shades that let through a lot of light and it's usually bright enough in his room that I don't even bother opening the blinds a lot. He's used to sleeping in full light at daycare--both with the shades open and all the room lights on and everyone yelling. I would say not to make a situation where you DC will never be able to fall asleep cause it's not totally pitch black. I would recommend something that blocks a lot of ligt, but still let's some through.

Thanks! Seems like kids adapt to what they get used to!
