Moms of 2 year olds or older
Are they drinking whole milk or 2%.
Jenna is still on the whole, Dr. never mentioned switching and she is such a poor eater

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
My ped told me at 2 they switch the kids to 2% regardless of diet. Actually I have heard that 2% has more calories in it then whole. And is better all around.
I didn't switch yet. Andrew will be 2 next month

I just switched D to 2% this weekend. My doc never mentioned it and then I read that thing in Newsday. D is also a horrible eater.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
I switched to 2% at 2 years. At 3 I am going down to 1% to make it easier for us (we drink 1% and DS#2 will be on whole - I'm not going to buy 3 types of milk).

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
DS is still on whole but I will switch him to 1% soon. He's 23 mths Discuss it with your pediatrician if she's a poor eater before you switch though, they might say to keep her on it depending on what other things are in her diet that provide enough fat.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
DS is 5 (in one week), and he's on Skim. DD will be two in a month, and she's still on whole. We'll probably switch her to either 2% or skim shortly after her b-day.

Whole still. He has a dr appt tomorrow so I guess I will find out if he should switch or not. I would think not since his eating habits are horrible!

We actually never started DD on whole milk, we started right on 2%. Dr. said no problem with that.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
When she turned 2 I was told I could switch but didn't have to. I chose not to at that time because I felt like she was too thin and needed the fat. I have since switched to 1% though because she was getting constipated.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
Aly will be 2 in June and is still drinking whole. My ped says she usually advises switching to 2% at 2 yrs olod but I am going to talk to her at DDs well visit, DD is in 15% for weight and not a great eater, I dont think I want to make the switch for awhile still..

That surprises me since they really need the fat and there is quite a difference in the two.
Obviously my son is much older, but he drinks whole. He's really thin and needs the extra fat and calories. He was on skim from around age 5 up until a few months ago.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
My son is 3yrs old and is still on whole milk. I never even new they switched to 2% until reading it on here but at my sons 3yr old check up I asked the dr if I should switch and he said I didn't have to but could if I wanted to. He just mentioned I should not be giving him more then 24ozs of milk/dairy a day.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
My doc recs 1- 2% at 2 years old, but We drink 1%, so I only have to buy whole and 1%.
We'll see what doc says on monday, she's such a peanut, even 18 month pants are still falling around her waist.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
Ryan still drinks whole milk...
My Dr has said nothing about switching, and to be honest I have no interntions..
As you know, Ryan is a peanut- who isnt the greatest eater. So on days he hasnt eaten so great, at least I know he got some fat from the milk.

Re: Moms of 2 year olds or older
1%.
I heard there is more calcium the lower you go from whole? (whole->2%->1%->skim)
Anyone know if that is true?
