moms of 9-12 month olds-decreasing bottle ?

so DS is 9 months old and gets 4 bottles a day, every 4 hours, with 6 oz in it (he doesnt always drink it all though). But recently i have been finding he is going longer between them. I am wondering at what point do i go to 3 bottles a day and at what times do you give it to your DC. Also, how many ounces do they drink. I am afraid if i give him 3 bottles, he wont get enough nutrients. Ideally i would love to give 3 7-8oz bottles, but DS def wont drink that amount in one sitting, even after being asleep for 11 hours, he wakes up and only take 5-6 oz.
TIA!Chat Icon

Great question B. DD has never eaten more than 6 ounces in a sitting, EVER. She normally wants 4 ounces, then an hour later, maybe 1-2 more ounces. She ends up eating 20-25 ounces a day.

I'm no help, but I'm interested to hear the replies too.

I took a bottle out of Jack's day not so long ago - and that led to him waking up in the middle of the night -- so I put it back in the routine. I may try to cut it out again though soon.

DD has been drinking less. She usually drinks her bottle when she goes down for a nap and I give her more (6-7oz) She takes 2-3 naps and when she wakes up in am for the whole day she will take 6 0z. So in total she will have around 4 bottles all day.

Try taking it out and replacing it with a snack and see what happens. Maybe a snack and some water or juice.

Same thing happened to us.

The Ped said to keep him on the same schedule and DS will let us know when he doesn't need as much.

I've been noticing that the afternoon bottle has had 2-3 ounces left every day, so I might start cutting back on that one.

The thing I worry about is that Logan won't drink anything from a sippy cup and won't take water, etc. from a bottle so I feel like he's thristy!

dd was on 4 bottles a day and I reduced it to 3 by cutting out her 10am bottle (the 2nd bottle of the day) and replacing it with water in a sippy...she adjusted fine to it Chat Icon

Re: moms of 9-12 month olds-decreasing bottle ?

DD will be 9 months this week & I've been worried about this too

DD drinks

7 oz when she wakes up

then 3-4 oz. bottles

& then usually only 2-3 oz before bed

She used to drink 30-35 oz & is now only drinking 17-20 Chat Icon

Same here. I give him the sippy all day long - hold it up for the water to come out - and he wants no part of it just yet.

Re: moms of 9-12 month olds-decreasing bottle ?

We just reduced the amount of formula in DS's bottles from 4 - 6 oz. bottles (24 ozs) to:

1 - 6oz in the am
1 - 5 oz at noon
1 - 5 oz at 4pm
1 - 4 oz at 7 pm

In between, I have beefed up her meals and she seems to be doing fine on the 20 ozs. DS is 8 months.....

I had no idea I was supposed to be decreasing bottles. Chat Icon

Pretty much since DD started solids, she's had 3 bottles day. Right now we are at:

Morning: 8 oz. bottle
Afternoon: 8 oz. bottle
Evening (right before bed): 5 oz. bottle (this bottle used to be 8 oz, but she was never really into it, so it's gone down slowly to 5 oz.)

She still only has 2 meals a day, FYI. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate the 3rd meal w/o sacrificing a bottle.

Re: moms of 9-12 month olds-decreasing bottle ?

Noah just sorta did it on his own. I always fed on demand and he basically tells me when he wants it.

He was down to 3 bottles a day, just recently he has wanted a 4th.

OMG- my DD is a little PIGGY!!!

She has 4 bottles a day 6oz each.
(She'll never drink more than the 6)

She also has 3 meals a day.

Yesterday at daycare, they asked me to bring in more food for her! Chat Icon
So now, she even has another fruit snack.

Schedule is:
7am-bottle
9-9:30- breakfast
12- bottle
2:30-3pm lunch + juice
5pm fruit snack
7-dinner
8:30 bottle

She'll drink a little bit from the sippy cup, not much though.
