Moms of Boys - First Haircut
Moms of boys - when did you get their 1st haircut and where did you go?
DH wants to take DS to a traditional barber because they are "skilled" in dealing with "man hair"
I feel like a salon would be more sympathetic to my little guy (who doesn't really like to have his hair brushed).
What did you do? Also, how short do I go? His hair is pretty long and wild now. I love it, but it is getting in his eyes so it's definitely time.

I dont know where you are located but we take DS to a barber shop (with women) in Kings Park and they do a fantastic job with him and on his hair.

Re: Moms of Boys - First Haircut
DS got his first haircut at around 11 months. The first time we got his hair cut by a woman my MIL knows who comes to her house. The first time I didnt want to cut his baby hair, and hte lady didnt like doing haircuts prior to 1 year so we compromised and just did the sides around his ears
Since then we have done the barbershop. Love the one in Kings park as well, the ladies are really nice there and they have toys which is nice to keep DS occupied.
Once he went to the barber on Main Street in Smithtown village with my ILs (this was the shortest he ever got his hair cut and I hated it but I wasnt there and I know my MIL likes short hair so I assume it was done as instructed)
the last 2x we have gone to Manny's Barber Shop in E Northport (Tick TOck shopping center) THey have 2 race car chairs, put thomas on a small TV for the kids and give lolly pops! I have been extremely happy with them as DS is now 2 VERY strong, VERY uncooperative and I they are patient, dont rush us and he has gotten a great hair cut both times!
IMO, just trim it the first time so its neat but dont take the length off. I cried when I cut DS's baby hair off, it has never been the same since!

We went to the same place at 10 months. He just watched sesame street the whole time, they were great.

This is where DH takes DS.
They are very patient. I've found David is the best. If he's available we usually wait for him. They'll give you a locke of his hair and a first haircut certificate.
DS first went when he was a little over a year old. For cultural reasons MIL asked me not to cut his hair until 1 year plus... he was bald for a while so the length wasn't too bad so I gave in on this one

Another Manny;'s of East Northport fan here! DS' hair took a LONG time to actually come in where he needed a haircut. His first haircut was in Nov. 2008...2 months before his SECOND bday...LOL
DS was nervous and scared the first time...They were so patient and caring. We got a certificate, his lock of hair, and lollipop..LOL Now, we go about once a month (or 2) and DS totally knows the routine and does not mind going in at all!
