Moms of girls - a bit TMI question and WWYD?

DD (2.75 y/o) had some loose poop today (according to our nanny). She went 3x, and it seemed like her stomach was bothering her.

When she woke up from her nap, I went to change her diaper and the lips of her vaginal area were totally inflamed. BRIGHT red and totally uncomfortable looking. Chat Icon DD FLIPPED when I tried to look further and put any ointment on (all I had was Desitin, as I haven't needed any sort of cream for her in ages). I finally wrestled some Desitin on her, and then she was walking funny, as though it was bothering her.

I just changed her again, and it's the same as before. I found some Butt Paste and (with DH's help) put some on her. She cried a lot. Chat Icon

My question is: WWYD about this? Just watch it and see what happens? Call the ped? Take her in tomorrow? She has school in the morning - should I send her and then take her in? Any idea of what this could be from? Think it's poop related?

I just hate seeing her in so much pain and especially not knowing what/were exactly it come from! I've never seen this on her before. Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks for any help/advice/etc. you can offer! Chat Icon

Kaydyn has a sensitivity to lactose so if she has too much dairy this exact thing happens to her...she gets runny poops and she gets swollen and inflamed. The only thing that helps her is triple paste. It might be related to the poop...maybe it irritated her skin.

I would play it by ear. If her poops go back to normal, but she is still red, I'd call the ped to see if it is a yeast infectionChat Icon

My first few questions would be:
Did she eat anything new?
Was her diaper changed immediately after pooping?
Does she have a fever?

I would wait to see how she is in the morning.
Does you ped have 8 am drop in hours? If she is still irritated then I would take her in.

sometimes my dd gets red down there but I think it is from not wiping that well

I would watch it but if she seems uncomfortable, call the ped and see if there is something otc that could help Chat Icon

same for dd, could it be that she didn't wipe that well and then it was further irritated by the poop??

hope she's better by tomorrow!Chat Icon

I wasn't with her all day (I work), but according to the nanny, she didn't eat anything unusual (I asked bc of the poop - didn't know about the irritation at the time).

I assume her diaper was changed immediately (or as soon as it was detected).

I did take her temperature, and she has no fever.

My ped doesn't have drop in hours, but I can call in the morning and make an appt for sometime tomorrow. Should I keep her home from school? Chat Icon

Thanks! Since she's still in diapers, we're the ones doing the wiping, so I don't think that's it.

Re: Moms of girls - a bit TMI question and WWYD?

DD had this... triple paste with a little mylanta or maalox mixed into the triple paste worked (use topically obviously).... desitin was awful for bad rashes... she screamed in pain as I put it on, I felt so bad. Oh and use sensitive wipes.

I would take the wait and see approach. If you have cranberry juice and yogurt I would give her those just in case, but I would call the ped if she is still irritated in the morning. Chat Icon I hope that she feels better soon.

Sounds like it could be yeast related. I would get her checked out asap.

Re: Moms of girls - a bit TMI question and WWYD?

Both my girls tend to poop a lot...and they both get red there as well if they are not changed immediatley. Usually the desitin clears it up within 24-48 hours.

I would wait that long before calling the Ped.
