Mom's of summer babies...

How soon did you start bringing you newborn out after they were born? I am due June 7th. I don't want to stay cooped up for too long.

How soon can I bring my little guy out and to what kind of places?

We went for walks immediately. I waited until 8 weeks for stores and restaurants.

Re: Mom's of summer babies...

We started going for walks when DD was 7 days old. I waited 6 weeks for indoor places.

Same here, though I think it was even longer than 8 weeks for us just b/c we didn't HAVE to take her with us when we went, one of us could stay home.

Same will likely happen with my 2nd baby, due this June. We plan on being outside a lot and doing day trips with both girls, but won't be doing any indoors restaurants or stores for a while.

6/15 here. I would suggest walks are ok right away but limit contact with other children, public places, etc.

She was born 6/15 & at 2 weeks old was hospitalized. She had a 103-104 fever, had the spinal tap, etc. We spent about 4 days in the hospital.

Just a warning - cox sackie runs rampant in the warmer months. In my opinion, better safe, than sorry.Chat Icon

Re: Mom's of summer babies...

we were walking outside after about 2 weeks. Mainly b/c I was taking a while to recover.

When he was about 4 weeks we ran errands at stores and then from there when I was everywhere after.

Re: Mom's of summer babies...

DD#1 is a later June baby and DD#2 is a late May baby. I brought both girls out immediately - about a week after they came home (only b/c I had a csection and had to wait until I felt up to walking outside).

I would go for long walks both early in the morning and late in the day when the sun wasn't the hottest and they were less likely to get a burn since you can't use sun screen (so I used sun cover and light blanket to cover the stroller).

I also took both girls to my parent's community pool at about 4 weeks old. They have umbrella tables and awnings where we could sit at least 5 feet or more away from others but keep DD in the shade. I also took DD#2 in the stroller to the park/playground with DD#1.

I followed my ped's guidelines and didn't take her out to public places until 8 weeks.

Ditto.. day one... literally the night we got home from the hospital
I actually took her to BRU.. I was totally stressed about it but she was so covered up, shielded and I was so darned anal about distance from people things, etc. hahaha Chat Icon she was fine, slept through it all.

But everyday I took her outside. Just kept her shaded really well from the sun.

The day after I go home from the hospital. As long as YOU are feeling up for it, the baby will enjoy the fresh air.

Re: Mom's of summer babies...

DD was born 6/3...it was VERY rainy this past June so we didn't go out too often for walks, but I would have taken her out right away for walks, if we could have been outside.
We went visiting family/friends by 4 weeks.
