moms of two who work
Did you send DC # 1 to daycare while on maternity leave? I think I may want to send the two older ones two days a week when I am home with baby # 3, but all I can think of are the teacher's in the daycare thinking I am some horrible mom.

Re: moms of two who work
DS doesnt go to daycare and I let my nanny go while I'm on maternity leave but I enrolled him in camp 4 mornings a week and so far it helps tremendously! I think it's good for you AND for them to maintain their routine so who cares what anyone thinks!

Re: moms of two who work
yes I did, miki goes to in home care. I kept her home one day per week (after the first month or so) and took her to do something fun (park, chuck E Cheese, etc)
but I did not want to mess with her schedule too much and I needed the rest too
If you can afford it, do it

I pulled ryan from oct-june until we started colin but my daycare didn't offer PT. If it did, I would have taken advantage of that. You should NOT feel guilty. They will likely enjoy being there.

Re: moms of two who work
My older one never went to daycare, she was in school half day and then with my mom or my husband in the afternoons, but you bet your arse that if she was in daycare, I'd have her there everyday while on maternity leave! Don't worry what anyone has to say or think. My guess is that if anyone would understand sending kids to daycare while on maternity leave, it would be daycare workers. They know how much work kids are, they work with them all day! I say do it.

Yes Chelsea still goes to daycare even though I am on maternity leave. We switched her to part-time though. It is a huge help. I don't have to worry about entertaining her while dealing with a screaming newborn all day.
Believe me the teachers will not care. I felt the same way but everyone told me I should not hesitate to keep her in including the teachers!.

Yup. I think it helped with my oldest daugther to adapt better to keep her with her routine, in daycare, with her friends and teachers. There was enough chaos at home those first few months - she really needed the familiarity of school to anchor her during that time. And it gave me time to recuperate from the c-section, establish a good nursing relationship, and bond thoroughly with Yael

Yes!!! It was a god send. She went 2x a week and I lived for those 2 days . You don't realize how easy an infant is the first time around - now you get to appreciate it more.

ITA! We did 2 days a week as well to keep DS in the routine and used to the school. It was SO easy to just have one child that days It was also good for him socially to be playing with his friends.
Don't worry about what the daycare will think. They will be glad you like them so much you want to continue it for that time. I also think it is fairly common. They didn't seem phased at all when I told them DS would be there that time.

Re: moms of two who work
We sent Claire 3xs per week-she went in late and we picked her up early.
It kept her spot reserved-no need to worry that she wouldn't be able to get back into her class in 3 months.
It kept her on schedule-didn't want to go through an adjustment phase with a toddler when she went back
She got lots of entertainment and activity during the days she went, lots of stimulation, and then lots of time at home with her new baby brother, worked out great

Re: moms of two who work
don't think about what the teachers (OR anyone else thinks!) you do what is best for YOU and your kids. end of story. i sent DD p/t to daycare while i was on maternity leave and it was great. it prepped her for the f/t daycare that was to come, kept her busy on those days, and then allowed me time to just be with the baby. its a good thing for you and your DC!!
