Mom's that are expecting #2 or more another question

Do you carry your DC's a lot...my mother is driving me nuts to not carry DD. She is heavy at 30lbs but today I did a lot of carrying and now I'm cramping a bit so I'm freaking out thinking that my mom was right....how do you not carry them!?!??!!?!?! I mean we had to leave CVS today and she was freaking out bc she wanted a lollipop so I had to lift her, getting her in and out of the car etc...UGH...

don't worry - I had TWO 27lb toddlers when I was pregnant, just take it easy when you can.....but it is impossible to NOT pick them up.

My DD is about 38lbs & I do TRY not to pick her up as much as I used too but sometimes you just have too.
Just try not to overdo it. It is fine.

I carried Samantha pretty much my entire pregnancy (but then again, she didn't walk until 6 weeks before the baby was born).

I asked my OB about it and she said, since I was already doing it and my body was used to it, it was fine. Just to be careful about how I pick her up.

I think our bodies are used to lifting 25lbs, so it's not a bid deal.
Not like when you are first pregnant and shouldn't be lifting things.

I am 30 weeks and she is not a walker yet so I carry her all day long!

Women have been having and caring for multiple children since the beginning of time -

Would I tell you to help DH carry the couch to the other room? No -
But carrying your kid around is fine -

Moms get all crazy - My Dad is 10x worse than my Mom, if it were up to him, I wouldn't move for 40 weeks -

Yes, I pick them up all the time. Plus they climb all over me, etc. The baby's well protected. I'm not worried.

Re: Mom's that are expecting #2 or more another question

DS is over 40lbs. I try not to pick him up as much as possible but of course thats not 100% of the time. If DH is home I tell him daddy will pick him up. If I am feeling too tried or sick I will change him on the floor etc. DS does climb in and out of hte car by himself but there are times he just wants mommy so I do pick him up (oh yeah and of course the tantrums - DH is not as skilled as me at picking up a screaming flailing child so I get that dutyChat Icon )

I can feel when I over do it and then I just try to take it easy more.

I felt more cramping in the beginning when I would carry him too much than now at 14 weeks.

I'm in between, if I know DD is having a bad day, its around nap time or shes just generally cranky...I'll carry her. Otherwise I tell her that my back hurts, shes a big girl and has to walk.

DD is 28lbs and I haven't changed anything, which basically means I pick her up 1000 times a day Chat Icon

Try not to worry - you should be fine!

7months pregnant here and always picking up a 30lb toddler. I lift that in reps with my free weights, so when someone tells me nit to pick up dc, she is too heavy I smile and say i weight train more than that!

You're used to carrying her, so I wouldn't be worried. I have lifted my DD the entire pregnancy and still lift her now at 33 weeks.

I carried my DS#1 while pg with DS#2. There was no way to avoid since he was 16-24 months during the pregnancy.

This time around DS#2 weighs as much at 3.5 as his brother did at 2. I'm not worried at all but will try to limit if possible.

Re: Mom's that are expecting #2 or more another question

I must say, this pregnancy is much different and has been very difficult, because I have a toddler too. Since the beginning, my Dr. said I was "doing too much." I was spotting and cramping every couple of weeks. I do pick up my DS when he needs me, to put him in the car/high chair, and I rock him to bed (which is a challenge in its own...lol). But that's about it. He walks to and from the car/house/etc.

Re: Mom's that are expecting #2 or more another question

I carried DS a lot in the beginning. Now I am 14 weeks and just don't have the umph in me to do it. He is about 30lbs.

I will pick him up if he needs consoling, misbehaving, and such. But they aren't for very long periods of time.

As a sidenote. The cramping you experienced may not have had anything to do with carrying DD. I had A LOT of cramping in the beginning with this pregnancy. Up to 7 or 8 weeks! I know I didn't have it when pregnant with DS. But everyone told me it was normal.

I hold dd (not sure if it's alot) she is 24lbs. I do try to let her walk more now though. If I felt cramping I'd try to limit picking her up.
