Moms that will have to return to work..

Do you ever think:

Holy God where am I going to get the extra $1k+ a month for child care? Chat Icon

We are going to have to make some cut backs. But then again, we wont be going to the movies & dinner like we used to..that's for sure.

Luckily I will be able to work from home for awhile, but not sure how long that will last.

Hopefully after working strictly from home I can do part time in the office and part time at home and have my mom watch Chat Icon when i'm not home.

Everyday! But I think that things always have a way of working themselves out..

we don't go to the movies now, or go that much at all...so no big adjustment...I 'll just need to stop buying things for my house! No more pier one, and target!!!

I think about it a lot! I pay so much for commuting, if only I could find a job in LI that pays what I make in the city, I could save so much money from commuting and parking. I could put it toward child care. Instead I'm just going to go broke! Chat Icon

All the time. Luckily DH will be able to do a couple of days a week but, I'm not sure what we're going to do because they aren't going to be the same days each week. MIL is retiring so we're hoping she'll take a day as well.

Then I worry about getting home from the city in time to get to daycare and pick up DC.

It's been tough now as well. I used to work for a friend's catering business on weekends but, I've stopped because I was too tired - so we don't have that extra income coming in.

yep..me too.

my commuting costs are Chat Icon Chat Icon so i figure if i stay home i cut that out and cut out the daycare cost..which my salary will be going mostly to daycare anyway. I also will not be buying lunches, work clothes/shoes etc.

we do need to cut back on spending and save more..but really..we dont do anything extravagant or exciting.

We are lucky that my mother is going to watch the baby when I go back to work and DH gets home from work usually around 3ish. When MIL retires from work they will be splitting the babysitting time which will be great. I think I lay awake more thinking about how we are going to survive on this disability I will be getting for 6/8 weeks while on maternity leave!

As a BTDT mom it's amazing how you find the money. We will double our costs when this one arrives, but we are moving some stuff around to make it work (and may do so again as we are contemplating a third child down the road).

Between 2 in daycare and the LIRR, it's going to cost me about $2700/month TO work. Now that's a big pill to swallow Chat Icon

Yes!
especially months that seem tight now, I think "how will I squeeze another 1K outta this ?"

Unfortunately, I'm thinking my 401K contribution will have to stop for a while.

Re: Moms that will have to return to work..

We are fortunate that my MIL is going to watch DS for 1 day a week & then 2 other days are being done by my BFF's mom. We do have to pay my BFF's mom but it will be chump change compared to daycare costs. I am fortunate enough that my office is allowing me to return to work only 3 days a week in the office & work from home 2 days (if needed) & continue to keep my salary.

Luckily we won't have to do day care, but that's only because we both work jobs with very flexible hours and my parents are both retired & offered to take him 3 days a week to start (it may become less once he starts walking/running around). I'll be working Tu-Sat, he'll be working M-F & we'll be splitting Tuesdays (I'll work the am shift & he'll work the pm shift). It'll be hard, but I think that it will work out well Chat Icon Chat Icon
