mom's who had their gallbladder removed post prego..please recc. surgeon
My HIDA scan results came back, and I have to get it removed! DS is 16 weeks and I am not looking forward to this!
Please recc. your doc. and what hospital...a lot of people have recc. Dr. Denoto in St. Francis, but he doesn't except my insurance.
TIA!

I had to have mine taken out 1 week after I gave birth It was an emergency situation. I was at Winthrop and the surgeon was Dr. David Shin. His office is in Mineola. I was happy with the outcome. Good luck!

I just had mine out in May. I used Dr. Glen Fitterman in Plainview. He does surgeries on Mondays and Fridays at either Plainview or Syosset hospital. I had mine done in Syosset and the hospital was great. Recovery was about 2 weeks.

I had mine removed WHILE i was still pregnant! I used Dr. Shrager in Setauket. He was excellent and recovery was minimal. Symptoms are intense right upper quadrant/rib pain with radiating pain to your right shoulder blade/back.

I just recently had mine removed. I used Dr. Attwa...he is affiliated with Mather or St. Charles. I had extreme pain in the middle of my abdomen, (although most pain is on the side). It started out like really gas pains, and got worse. My HIDA scan showed my gall bladder was working at less than 10%.

As you are eating or shortly thereafter? My attacks were just about an hour after I ate anything dairy or high fat.

i went into the emergency room at st josephs hospital in bethpage area. my dr was dr. rochman and i was very happy with him.
if you are getting an attack its an unbearable pain, like rolling on the floor pain. i had 3 or 4 and they were always random, never from a specific food. i wouldnt wish the pain of an attack on anyone.

Re: mom's who had their gallbladder removed post prego..please recc. surgeon
I had emergency surgery at Good Sam. I would recommend Dr. Jho, his office is on Park in Bayshore. I would NOT recommend getting an ERCP at Good Sam if you need one. That procedure is done endoscopicly if one of your stones in the gallbladder comes out and gets stuck in a duct. I had to have that done 2 hours before my gallbladder surgery and the dr who did it lacerated my pancreas and must of hit something else as well because I also had a large hematoma. The gallbladder surgery went great but because of the pancreatitis caused by the laceration and the hematoma I ended up in the ICU for a week and didn't leave the hospital for 2 weeks in total. It got so bad I had to be transfered to Mount Sinai in the city. This all happened only 6 weeks pp this May. The gallbladder attacks felt like a heart attack and the pancreatitis was the worst pain in the world, I also wasn't allowed to eat for a week to try and cure it. I'll never go back to Good Sam.

This is a super serious situation you are talking about and ERCPs are very risky, complicated but life saving procedures. That is horrible that you went through that. You are lucky to be here.
To the OP, Dr. Robert Ward at ProHealth in Lake Success is excellent. He is affiliated with the North Shore system.

Thanks everyone...after talking to friends and reading everyone responses, I have narrowed it down to two surgeons who take my insurance. Please see my link on the Health board..
Now I just have to decide which one.

yes...they were that intense during pregnancy. Now they aren't as bad.
They happened usually while eating (towards the end) or just after. It was always after eggs and sometimes other foods too.

Sorry for the bad spelling - my iphone doesnt do well with posts. I was in for 4 days b/c I had to wait a day for the ERCP and a day for the gallbladder. I saw his associates in the ER and the day before the gallbladder surgery. Everyone was very nice, helpful, and knew about my case. The only thing I struggled with was the mass amount of students coming in and asking the same questions over and over. I finally told them, if you are not going to tell me your name or and you don't know why I'm here you can't ask me any questions.
