Moms who have had C-Sections
Knowing that I am going to have my 3rd c-section I have to know something. When I had Emma it was an emergency C so by the time I had the spinal and was on the table I was so wiped out from 23 hours of labor they could have cut my head off and I would have been grateful. But when I had Jeremy he was a scheduled C. I got my spinal and was laying on the table getting prepped. The doctors came and and pinched my skin where they were going to cut me and asked me if I could feel it. I could. I could also move my legs. Now I know something may have been off since I could still move my legs but when it came to the skin sensations. After you got your spinal could you feel your skin? I know (atleast I think I do) with Emma I was totally numb, felt nothing but I dont know if that had to do with my adrenaline from labor. I told the nurse in the OR that I could feel skin and she said that was normal. What was your numbing experience.
(I am nervous about a 3rd C because of my 2nd experience in the OR, I dont want to trip out having my 3rd baby)

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I didn't experience a C-Section but my SIL did three times. Like you the first wasn't planned (she couldn't dialate past 2 cm) and the 2nd and 3rd were planned. She said she didn't feel anything as far as pain. She did feel tugging though when they took out the babies. My MIL on the other hand did feel everything when she had my SIL & BIL (they are twins).

same here. I almost felt like he was taking the baby from under my ribs I was like "is this normal ??" it was enough pressure to be painful in a way...
I dont remember my 1st C that well. I was also very drugged up, close to 20 hours of labor and screaming (luckily never got to pushing)... my 2nd, although wasnt planned (wanted to go into labor on my own)... I did labor a bit and then walked over to the OR they prepped me, etc. I remember it taking a while to numb me, they kept poking me with needles to make sure I didnt feel anything. and I kept pushing that little drug button to have more pumped into me
HTH

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I had a scheduled c-section, and got an epidural for it. I could feel them moving me and pushing on me, but I couldn't feel any pain and I couldn't move my own legs. I definitely felt pressure, though. I don't know if that answers the question, but that's what I felt. HTH!!!!

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I guess not, I really dont remember much that day, but I do remember that knife going across my belly and I knew he started to cut me open. So I guess you can feel somethings on your skin when you are numb, just not the pain of it.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
Well first, congratulations! I must have missed your announcement! I remember when I had my c-section - I did not feel anything on my skin. I did feel the pulling and tugging when he was getting the babies out but nothing on my skin.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
When I had my c-section, they asked me if I felt anything and I jumped up screaming because I felt a sharp pain. They had to lean me forward and give me a spinal. The doctor explained to my DH that I had a "hot spot" or an area that didn't get numb. I just remember hearing the doctor say that if I can't get numb they're going to have to put me out. Luckily I didn't feel anything after a few minutes.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I had my 2nd c/s a month ago and although I went in there knowing what to expect and felt fine, I had a mini freak out session after my spinal b/c I could still move my feet. I totally was afraid they were going to cut into me while I could feel it. Later they told me that's a very common fear, which it obviously is when I read your post as well. The anesthesiologist had them pinch me with the forceps in the midsection and then he pinched me with his fingers around the shoulder and asked me which felt harder. It was the shoulder pinch - and he told me they were doing the midsection pinch about 20x harder than he was. That made me feel better about being able to move my feet - plus he said at that point they had already started - and I wasnt feeling it so all ended up being OK.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
Ok, Elizabeth, so I can understand the whole pinching thing and the moving feet thing but could you still move your feet while they were doing the surgery or were you completly numb by then? Also, could you feel the cutting at all? With Emma I felt NOTHING, but with Jeremy I felt the pinching of the forceps.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I would have a LONG talk with the OB. I remember your birth story and he/she should be able to discuss this with you in detail and plan for a better spinal this time. HUGS!

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
Karen, I wanted to add that my doctor used needles to see if I was numb enough. She had those four pronged tyne needles, and she said to me, "You're ready to go because I just stuck four needles deep in your abdomen and you had no idea." At that point, I could still move my feet. I just remembered that this morning. A few minutes later, I couldn't move anything.

Re: Moms who have had C-Sections
I had a scheduled c and when they first did the spinal it wasnt working and they had to keep going deeper.. . I (like the baby I am) started crying hysterically and the guy gave me something else to calm me down. Once I felt the pins and needles start I couldnt feel a THING. I was so out of it I dont even remember anything that happened. I felt numb all over.

Same here, however the epidural with my first c-section was a disaster, I wound up having to get general
