mom's who walk dogs
how do you do it? I mean, when you are home alone and need to walk the dog, how do you bring DC? In a bjorn or in the snap and go, just carry the baby?
im worried about pouring rain and the hot sun with a newborn (due 5/4)when walking our dog 3-4 times a day We are in a condo, no backyard to let her loose
TIA

Re: mom's who walk dogs
baby in the citi mini and one of the dogs (the one that enjoys it...its not worth it for me to do both, cuz the other one hates it and pulls)
OR DH walks them both at like 10:30 at night
During the day, they go on our lawn...we've trained them to ring the bells on the doorknob to let us know when they have to go...but now we have pee/burn marks on the lawn

Re: mom's who walk dogs
I'm lucky... my dog just goes out on his own on our lawn. I usually put DS in the exersaucer or when he was little in the bouncy or swing. Sometimes wait till he's napping too, but since my dog goes right out front I stand there in the front and open the door once in a while. He's a small dog. I can't imagine what to do with a big dog that goes for long walks. I was thinking the same thing the other day

Re: mom's who walk dogs
I used the stroller and bought the sun block canopy thing to make sure she was covered when she was a newborn. I did try the Bjorn with a sunhat once, but it didn't really work out for me. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3573728
I also used the rain cover with the stroller, but we were lucky and it didn't rain that much.

Re: mom's who walk dogs
i walk two goldens (inlcuding my less than a year old puppy ) and my baby - i use a stroller most of the time - the stroller has a big awning and a rain cover - we have been out in all weather - i used a pram when he was really little - easier to sleep - just learn to do it - i was scared at first but it gets easier with practice - if your dog pulls get a good harness to stop him prior to the baby coming - also you will prbably need help the first week - because i bled more when i tried to walk my momy long distances the first week
when it snowed i used the infant carrier and walked the dogs with treats in my hand -very quiet street

Re: mom's who walk dogs
I've been walking our dog Sophie with the baby almost since DS was born.
Do yourself a favor and hire a dog walker for 1 month if you can swing it, when the baby is JUST born it can be tough, and you DO NOT want to skip walks, the doggie will need exercise more then than EVER, with the new baby in the house. You could even register for this, if you can find one through a referral or word of mouth from friends in your neighborhood. It will be REALLY tough to fit it all in those first few weeks!!!
Once you're able to do it, for safety's sake, skip the Bjorn and use your stroller (I have a large breed, she's 60lbs, and while she's a good walker, I didn't want to take the chance of being distracted only to have her PULLL me and possibly fall). If your dog is small/medium, the Bjorn might be OK though. But eventually, as DC outgrows the bjorn, (or your back gives out, whichever comes first), you'll need the stroller anyway.
My system is to get the baby in the stroller and down our 4 front stairs. I leash the dog and tie her retractable lead securely around my waist (I do kind of a slip knot around my midsection and push the handle of the leash into my backpocket). She can sniff and stop and do her business, and my hands are free to push the stroller AND drink coffee .

Re: mom's who walk dogs
bjorn is easier...the ergo carrier has a little shield you can pull over the baby's head. I generally used that when DS was an infant, I've only recently started using the stroller (he's 9 months old).
