?? Mom's with acrylic nails (or silk or gel or whatever)
Are you removing them before baby comes?
I originally thought I would remove them as soon as I was pregnant but I have not. It has been easier for me to have them on b/c of all the allergies I have. Without the nails, if get a rash I scratch the hell out of myself!!!! With the nails I can't do much damage. Getting them done when I had bad m/s was torture, though!!!
I do not know if I should have them removed before baby comes. There are those studies that show how much bacteria they harbor, but mine are so short and they never seem to trap water. If anything, I keep my hands so clean because I am aware of the potential problems. I would keep them very short but I still like them to have wrapped.
Also, I keep thinking that if I do get the blues after baby, having my nice colorful nails will help cheer me up, but having removed my nails would just be another reminder that life will not be the same anymore!!

I have natural nails that are quite long and I find that I have to file them often to keep from scratching the baby. HTH

With my 1st pregnancy, I removed them and kept them off until DD was 3-4 months old. Ironically, I scratched her more with my natural nails then I did with my fake (my natural nails are just super thin, like razors, despite being kept short.)

Re: ?? Mom's with acrylic nails (or silk or gel or whatever)
I recently removed mine mainly because I go someplace that is 20-25 mins from where I live. I figured once I had the baby (in Nov, not the best of weather) I wouldnt want to travel there nor have the time too. Plus my nail person told me to give my nails a rest. I have had silk wraps on for over 15 yrs. Being on the prenatal vitamines help a lot and my nails are really strong. Now I go for a manicure and spa pedicure every two weeks instead. My nails arent rough or scratch me at all. I am sure once I get back into the swing of things a few months after the baby is born, they will be back on again.

I took mine off a few months ago, but if I have time after the baby I'd like to put them back on and keep them short.

I'm keeping mine. My nails were growing really fast, but I just wanted them to look "pretty" so I got them wrapped recently. I keep them short..so it shouldn't be a problem.

Mine are wrapped and will continue to be wrapped. After returning from my HM DH made some comment about how much time I dedicated to them, so I let them go. After 3 weeks I was miserable. NEVER again will I do that.

i removed them about 2 mos into preg - knew that i wanted them strong for when the baby would be here so it wouldn't hurt to change diapers, etc w/weak nails.
the savings was big too, b/c i was spending 35 every two weeks...baby comes first!

So funny that you posted this because I had the same thought. I ended up having them taken off last week. I had silk wraps for 3 years and I am having some difficulty adjusting to my thin, brittle nails, but I figured that I wasn't going to have the time or money to keep up with them.
I do miss them though.

Wow, I thought that everyone would tell me to get them taken off. My mother was laughing when I told her that I want to feed the baby only organic foods but I'll keep wearing fake nails and breathing in chemicals at the nail salon!!!

Re: ?? Mom's with acrylic nails (or silk or gel or whatever)
I had gels up until the time I found out I was pregnant. I think I lasted a few weeks and the smell of getting them done was just a bit too much for me and I was worried about the fumes and being pregnant. Now DD is 2 months and I haven't gone back to them. My natural nails are very strong and I keep them fairly short.
Plus, the 60$ every two weeks can now go towards diapers etc.
