Moms with clotting disorders -- what kind of BC do you use? Any info on IUDs?
So after my 6 week PP checkup I come to find out my only options for birthcontrol are an IUD or condoms What has everyone else been told? What do you use?
I have several clotting disorders (factor V leiden, MTHFR, protein S def. just to name a few)
I also had a pretty severe episode of PP hemorrhaging 18 days PP, and at that time passed a HUGE clot
my OB said its very unsafe to use any type of oral birth control and refuses to give anyone Depo because it "rots your bones" I dont know what to do! IUDs always turned my stomach

I don't have any of the clotting disorders but since an incident several years ago wherein I had multiple pulmonary eboblisms, I have been off birth control entirely.
At least if I had one of those disorders they would know why that happened to me, but as it is it was spontaneous and could potentially be from the contraceptive so I just can't risk it.
We use condoms ( ) and rythm method-not a lot of choices really.
I'll talk with my ob PP to see if there are any new options for me.

I'm protein S def. and we use condoms. We don't like them, but I'm too scared to use anything else.

we will use natural family planing after this DC (#2 is born).. DH is sort of insisting that this is "it".. so I said, if he wants to make sure of it, he can get "snipped".. otherwise, we take what God gives us.

PNP baby and Natural family planning. Hate birth control and condoms
You can look up NFP online or get Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Its pretty reliable as long as you don't mind not having s e x for a week or more during your fertile time

There is an IUD out there that can stay in for five years -- it has no hormones and was recommended to me because I have the same clotting problems. I think it was Mirena?

I don't have a clotting disorder, but we're going with Paraguard IUD. It has no hormones and it's good for up to 10 years. The OB told me it pays itself off in 2 years (something to think about if you're planning on having more kids).

That's right - paraguard was it. The Mirena one has hormones I think.
