mom's with fall/winter (end of year) kids
if you have children whose birthdays fall in Oct-Dec, do you/did you ever feel they were ever at a disadvantage as compared to thsoe who are "older" but in the same grade?
DH is totally obsessed with the idea that he does not want a child with a "late" birthday because they are always the youngest.
Case in point - driving (being the last) or turning 21 (being the last) also more realistic, being almost a whole year younger when entering kindergarden?
Curious about the thoughts of BTDT?

Re: mom's with fall/winter (end of year) kids
Well my DD was born in October so she will be in this position but I don't see it being an issue at all. But this is coming from a November baby who had no issues whatsoever. Personally, it never bothered me being the youngest. Especially now...most of my friends from school are almost a year older than me. It was nice being the last one to turn 30 .
But seriously, unless the child was really lagging behind the other students and having trouble 'keeping up', I don't think it's an issue at all.

Re: mom's with fall/winter (end of year) kids
Our cut off is 12/1 so DS will be old for his grade with a 12/21 b-day so he will be the first. It's just tough though because he gets showered with presents for a month and that's it!
I have a September b-day so I was one of the last but, never felt I was at a disadvantage.
A friend of mine didn't want to have a child in the summer because she was afraid that they would miss out on celebrating their b-day at school. I think there are plusses and minuses to each time of year!

I am Jan and DH is Feb so we never experienced it. I've convinced him that it doesnt matter, the child will survive no matter what month he/she is born but now I am starting to think maybe there is some truth.

Re: mom's with fall/winter (end of year) kids
My birthday is end of December. I was always the youngest in my class. Last to be able to drink, get into clubs legally, etc. You know what? Never really bothered me at all.
This was back in the day when December 31st was the cutoff for each grade. Now different school districts have different cutoffs. So for those that have a September 1 cutoff, a child born in August will be the youngest of the class and a child born in September or October will be the oldest. Similar for areas with a November or December cutoff.
In other words, you just never know and in the end I'm not sure it really matters that much.

My kids bday is Dec 30, they will be the oldest in their class. I don't think its necessarily a disadvantage to be one of the younger ones.

My son was born at the end of October and I see no problems. He is actually one of the smartest kids in his class and has been for years.
